The two (2) audible "beeps" that I used to hear when pressing the button on my key fob has taken a vow of silence. Fortunately however the car starts without problems. What is going on and should I be concerned? 1999 355F1

Probably nothing more than the siren module has failed. The siren module has an internal rechargeable battery that eventually leaks and generally corrodes the circuit board in the siren module, hence lack of noise. A faulty siren module with a damaged circuit board can, in some circumstances, also prevent the car from starting if it sends an "I'm being tampered with" signal to the immobilizer but generally they just fail, die and make no noise.

If you suspect a faulty siren module is preventing the car from starting you can simply unplug a faulty siren module as a work around. The siren module is located at the front of the car approximately under the drivers side headlight bucket, access is through the wheel arch , ( remove wheel first, then access panel, similar to accessing the battery, but on the other side )

If your little red diode is permanently lit, prime suspect is again the siren.
