Winter driving

I do - got winter tyres, works pefectly

Even starts at minus 20 .... a bit reluctant, but once the engine catches, the noise it makes is glorious

It is the only car I own, so it has to do everything - rain or snow, dog carrier, shopping trips to pick up bulky stuff etc.

so far very happy with it

Everything works fine with proper winter tires. Better yet, studless winter tires despite slight less fun.

 

Mine always sits up front - German pinscher - so if somebody else wants to come along they sit in the rear .... Generally it works well, although it is a bit annoying that the window switches and hazard lights buttons are in the middle between the seats as he likes to stand there to look out the front ..... Got a little seat belt for his harness and as the seats are quite flat, he can even lie down with his head on the armrest.

It is good that I am not planning on selling the car ever again as it will never again look "mint out of the showroom"

I think there are also Michelins available in the correct sizes, but I believe the Sottozero is the only recommened/approved tyre. Am sure both are fine, but have only had the Sz myself - has a useful 270 kph rating, which is plenty fast enough

Yes dealer changes and stores tyres for me.

 

I think those Michelin alpins are new - I don't ever remember seeing them available in years past

has anyone tried the alpins? the Pirellis are great - lots of owners have used them

 

heres a question for winter drivers - if you don't put that many miles on ur snow tires how many years do wait to replace them? for example, if you only drive 1k miles per winter how long will you keep a set of snows?

 

I have only had them for a season so far, but had them on the car Oct to May, I doubt mine will get to an age where you would replace due to age. Gut feel is, no longer than 4 years on a car that you do high speeds in.

The Michelins are a new option I think. when I asked last year the dealer could not give me any feedback yet as he had just mounted those first time for a few owners, so no user feedback at the time.

 

makes sense - this is my 5th season with mine so maybe ill try the Michelins.

Also keep the tires in sealed plastic bags (ie garbage bags) before stacking them up when off-season to make them last longer.

*however from this coming season, i will have switched to Michelin Alpin's - if they are anywhere as good as the MPSS vs Pirelli's, then all the better - below pics from of my 1st FF

I have to check with my dealer who I will see on 2 weeks - he did say he would arrange them - I think you have to go with 295 instead of recommended 285 - need to double check

 

I run Michelin Alpins on my 991 Turbo and was out in the cold and DC snow storms for the past 2 years. They are amazing.

 

good to know - have you driven on the sottozeros? compare/contrast?
