Wel obviously they aren't going to destroy the other car. But they tried giving rosberg the pick of the goods but it didn't work

Maybe you'll find this one funny?

Why should anyone be "scared" about that? It is not religion or politics so some of you take it way to serious.
And furthermore: why does none of those thinking he is start one. Are you scared? ;)

Only the subscribed are able to start a poll of course...so they would be the ones to answer your question.

In previous polls it looks like people vote and maybe leave a comment too...i guess by now pretty much all the comments have been made on this thread ...so perhaps time for the poll to finish it off ?

I suspect they all remember the last time a poll was up on Elton, he drew a tiny percentage of votes, and they turned out to be from the posters that regularly shove his supposed greatness down our throats.

Why they think I of all people would bother to do a poll for them God only knows......

Ross Brawn, who worked with Michael Schumacher at Benetton and Ferrari, says the current drivers do not have the capabilities of the seven-time world champion. "None of them are changing the perception of a racing driver in the way Michael changed people's perception of what a racing driver should be". Apologies if this has already been posted.

    Formula 1's Greatest Drivers - AUTOSPORT.com - Lewis Hamilton

It's the top 40 according to 217 F1 drivers from the past and present. But I believe it was compiled in 2010 after Button's title in 2009.Although the statistics have been updated to the end of 2015

I seem to recall that this classification is already a few years old, no? Even if the statistics of the drivers still active are regularly updated (number of victories, lap records, pole-positions) the classification itself has not.
Frankly, I find this kind of exercise rather pointless...(well, I still consider Fangio as the greatest, but that's just me...ha!)

    And so do I.

I just think that during the inter-season, motoring magazines don't have much information to print and decide to fill up their pages with nostalgia mixed with senseless drivel.

That starts a polemic where some people get very passionate about their favourite ...

True...since then Hamilton became much more successful...nobody doubts that...but did he become "greater" by winning in the Mercedes?
Again: don´t missjudge success with greatness.

So do you think MS was great? And if so, why?

+1 prior to Mercedes he was hardly notable as 'great'. Whats changed? The car and nothing more. Again at Mclaren LH was nothing to really be impressed with. Without Mercedes he was at a noted plateau in F1 and less of a factor in the sport in an average Mclaren. His move to Mercedes and the winning car was a well timed move. Without it I think he would have left F1 altogether. He doesnt seem to have much attention span for competition mid pack. He and Maldonado were the crash twins LOL.

Just watch races as Barcelona 1996 and you might know the answer...I think winning in inferior Ferrari during the first years add much more to his legacy than the actual titel years. They just put his stats in the same region as his talent.
Schumacher was the optimum driver in a time when F1 did need driving abilities as much as commitment and piscipline in unlimited testing. Schumacher was all that, plus he was able to motivate a team. Even when he came across as egomanic in the media he certainly was a team player and I think you can ask everyone in his garage back then and they will all agree...
I do not say he is the greatest ever (how can one compare him with Fangio, Clark or even Nuvolari) but he was the drivers-prototype of his era.

1996-2000 are consecutively some of the best seasons a driver has ever driven. It was amazing watching someone so far beyond the rest of his peers. He dragged a non WDC car to near WDC misses in 1997/1998 better than anyone ever has. Maintained excellence for many years, went wheel to wheel with everyone from Senna to Hamilton, jumped in a car he had never driven and immediately went faster than his 3xWDC teammate as a rookie, beat Senna on points his first full year in F1, came to an uncompetitive Ferrari and turned it into a dominant force, one of the best (IMO the best) wet weather driver ever (look at his wet performances in qualifying even in his 40s in 2012...supreme), fastest "in race" driver ever (untouchable # of fastest laps), hardest working driver ever, drove the fastest cars ever in terms of lap time and still holds most lap records, ability to handle immense pressure of winning Ferrari a WDC again, 5 Monaco wins, pole at Monaco at 43 years old.

Individual races that are legendary Spain 1994 (stuck in 5th gear race), Spain 1996, Monaco qualifying 1996, Italy 1996, Monaco 1997 (22 second lead by lap FIVE in the rain), Spa 1997 (Leading by a MINUTE after 12 laps in the rain), Argentina 1998, Suzuka 2000.

Yeah he ticks off a few boxes.

Well think about it. Once you strip all the stats from the driver (any driver for that matter) what are you left with?

Do I think MS was great? Absolutely but obviously not for the same reasons
