I think the UK has the most concentration of cars, even more than the USA which has @ almost 40 cars now.

    That was I thinking about.

There is a story about a 288 GTO delivered new to Sheikh Ali Abdullah Al Salem Al Sabah which stolen during the Iraqi forces during the invasion of Kuwait (Gulf War).

    Ever heard about it ?

There is a thread titled "288 GTO interesting back story". http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/288gto-f40-f50-enzo-laferrari/528774-288-gto-interesting-back-story.html

in the thread it is stated that Bob Norwood has the body/wheels and sub frames from a 288 that was disassembled to create the first f40

Is it possible the Norwood 288 GTO body/wheels and front /rear subframes have part numbers that could be cross referenced to prove they belong to a Vin#??

Would that Vin# now belong to an actual F40 Prototype ?

Is the Norwood 288 body the only example of a complete oem body separated from the chassis in the world?

Sold for some $308,000 (~14.5%) less than 57481 realized this past Sunday at Gooding Pebble Beach, despite 56651 displaying ~60% fewer kilometers on its odometer and continuously in single ownership from new.

Indeed, what a great deal for the Buyer of 56651!

Seller, who purchased the car new from the factory at list price (@ $85,000+) in 1985, made far more than the Seller of 57481 and is very happy.

Looks like a win-win to me.

Not true. The Seller of 57481 paid $300,000 for it in mid-2002.

You never seem to have the class to know when its enough, do you?

I'm simply trying to point out that the seller and buyer in this transaction were happy, I know both parties and that much is indisputable.

You should be glad of that after the fact that you tried in vain to disparage the car http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/288gto-f40-f50-enzo-laferrari/528819-bonhams-288-gto-56651-its-true-essence.html in a epically lame attempt as documented here for posterity. I encourage anyone reading this to read the entire thread from inception to the point it was locked. Speaks for itself.

Personally, I would buy 56651 with lower miles and one-owner status and save $300,000 any day over the other car, that's a no-brainer.

I wish we didn't have to continue reading about all of this Terra versus Joe animosity. Some things are best left unsaid.

+1. The animus originated strictly from Joe's side with his low-brow action of bringing up my $500/1000 municipal political campaign contribution, as if it were at all relevant/germane to the topic at hand. Rather than use threads on Fchat as a convenient pretext to engage in a concerted campaign to attack and humiliate me personally, I'd suggest the proper and appropriate venue for such vitriol is privately.

Why do you continuously insist on attacking me PERSONALLY ad hominem? You've already been warned/rebuked/admonished/censured by the moderator last month for having done exactly that on multiple occasions, etc.

Joe, when I locked that thread, I warned both of you about rehashing this in other threads. The two of you can settle your differences (or not) somewhere else, but we're not going to allow either of you to chase the other around the board, derailing threads as you go.

Well, I started this thread myself nine years ago and have nurtured it ever since as a resource for GTO owners & enthusiasts alike, all the while without incident and with a zero thread-lock record :D so, I think I can ensure it remains on track without too much trouble.

As regards that other thread which speaks for itself, you locked it, but it would have been fine to leave it open

Seriously, point taken, I'm only too happy to move on.

Totally agree. Happy seller. Happy buyer. Happy auction house. Win-win-win. Indeed.

Curious to see the math that goes with the statement "Seller, who purchased the car new from the factory at list price (@ $85,000+) in 1985, made far more than the Seller of 57481"

Can't quite get my arms around that calculation. How did he make "far more"?

This 288 GTO was on display at the Tatton Park classic car show in the North West of England last weekend. It's not seen that often nowadays although I saw it 7 / 8 years ago with about 64000 KM on the clock. Pic credit Unknown. Found on FB .
