I'm not sure about Classiche, I think they will insist on standard exhausts. I'm pretty certain that Cavallino understands that Megahones were the period 'sports' version of a GTO exhaust. FWIW, IMHO I think the Megaphones transform the sound to make the GTO tie for fourth place in terms of the all-time greatest Supercar exhaust sounds. 1. Ferrari F50 2. Porsche Carrera GT 3. Lamborghini Countach Downdraft 4. Ferrari 288 GTO & F40
Unless your 288's build sheet shows it was delivered from the factory with the Ansa sport exhaust, Classiche will require the OEM exhaust. Knowledgeable concours judges will likely deduct points. I found the OEM exhaust sounds pretty good. Not as loud at the Ansa, but not bad! I may sell my 288 GTO Ansa exhaust if I get a decent offer.
Great list, though I'm surprised you don't have the Enzo high on your list. I have never heard a sound quit like an Enzo. From the moment it turns over, it immediately proclaims its dominance with that fierce growl.

Number 5! My list is based on the sound emitted at WOT and overrun, as the car is being driven. Agreed, the Enzo literally barks into life.
Bill, you are correct, Classiche requires the original exhaust, we Classiched 2 GTOs this year and in both cases the original units had to be affixed to pass. The original build sheet of a GTO will not show the Ansa F1 Megaphone application even if it was done at point of delivery, as this was strictly done post-production when the car was collected at the factory, where all GTOs were essentially delivered (as explained to me by someone who purchased a new GTO). It was an 'unofficial' application recommended to certain sporting clients, and then subsequently became popular. As regards Concours, at least 2 cars I know (mine being one of them) have won Concours D'Elegance events with the Megaphones in place, and I daresay a knowledgeable judge would not deduct any points if it is the original mild-steel Ansa F1 unit in place. One can tell this unit by its black-annealed appearance and the hammered knurled edges of the exhaust tips, and the extent to which it extrudes from the rear, such as displayed on 56331 http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/144886159-post10605.html The unit you have is a stainless steel reproduction item that features dimensions that are slightly different, with a wider dimension exhaust tip and shorter extrusion from the rear. These units were not made by Ansa and this is the same unit used on the TTR GTO 56339 for example. You are right not to use this reproduction unit for Concours, because these are strictly aftermarket and should indeed be a deduction, if the judges are knowledgeable and can tell the difference.
That's good going, nice to see them being used. Out of the super 5 I think the 288 is the rarest to spot. Although the get together a few years ago in Barcelona seemed to bring a few out of the wood work.
The GTO is the rarest to spot because it is the rarest in production numbers. That same summer in 2009 the guys in Spain got together, we managed to get 15 of them together in the USA. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ferrari 288 GTO - 26 augustus 2016 - Autogespot Maybe someone can add the pictures in this thread. Recently sold to his new owner (2nd from new). An addition in a nice collection which completing the fantastic five if I'm correct.
Awesome to see the flames. And cool pics with the lights on, have never seen one pictured like that. Still my favorite Ferrari. Such a gorgeous car.
Joe - were all 288 GTO's rosso corsa from the factory? I don't believe I have ever seen a 288 in any other color.
Just posted on another Thread, I felt it should find its home on here.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irWtU3Q6kOA
That was an uncharacteristically quick vid by petrolicious. Must have not had much time for the shoot. Also the speed elements seem overdramatised. Sounds great though and the silhouette is gorgeous.
Speaking of which, does anyone know if David Lee still owns his 288 Evo? I haven't seen it in any of his recent garage pictures.

Great Video - captures the emotion of the drive perfectly although I don't usually push it that hard - I think the video captures the excitement and how dynamic the car feels. On the subject of spotting, despite it being the rarest I think you see them out and about more than the F50 or Enzo, I'd put this down to them being more practical. I've certainly seen few out and about in London over the years (excluding my own). Maybe this is just a statistical aberration . I've never taken the F50 into town for example but I have the 288 a few times - it's easier to park, you don't have to slow down so much and check the front is up over speed bumps, etc...
This Black right hand drive 288 GTO was spotted again today in the UK . The number plate seems to have changed from last time it was spotted. ( Last spotted with the number plate 3 XO ) . Pic by Ryan James Couceiro on FB. Image Unavailable, Please Login
