Glad to hear the problem is resolved. It was as I suspected.

We routinely hear about changing valve guides like it's nothing more than changing a flat tire. The reality is it's a complicated process that requires special equipment (not available from Harbor Freight ;) ), attention to detail and someone that knows what they're doing. These things aren't available everywhere and a fancy sign with a million dollar overhead is no guarantee that you've come to the right place.

These parts were replaced again on a client's car after having previously been installed by a dealer during a previous service.

The guides had been pressed in crooked, the grinding mark on the valve was done carelessly when it was refaced. The result is a stress point on the most vulnerable place on the valve.

Wade was trying to help. He offered to do the work and said he knew what the problem was and how to manage it.

He very much offered a solution - send him the heads and he will fix them. He is under absolutely no obligation to reveal his intellectual property to any of us in the process and the OP was under no obligation to send them to him.

At the end of the day, it was Wade that saved the heads and that is very much in the spirit of this forum.

Tim, plenty of people can do the job correctly just as plenty can do it incorrectly.

Engine building has been going on for a long, long time. As with anything in life, you have people that do a good job and people who don't. Wade happens to work for one of those places with "a big fancy sign" yet he knows what he is doing.

To the OP - I'm glad Wade sorted this for you :)

I'm well aware of what Wade does and where. It's not a coincidence that he knows what he's doing. My point was that taking your car to a dealer is not necessarily a guarantee of quality work.

I agree and the same can be said for anywhere else. Good and bad all over the planet :)
