which one don't you like? I don't like the NX and RX.... The spindle grill is growing on me on the gx and the lx. I think they could have done better. but in darker colors it actually looks ok

    LOL. this thread is fuN!

Whats funny is I don't mind the one in the middle. At least its not another bar of soap.

Ok... so I know I am in a design thread with designers etc... and I know you should never try to style a car so its "i don't mind" and "at least its not another bar of soap" I know those are terrible.

i am ashamed to admit this... I was once in the camp with you guys going what the heck are they doing... that spindle grill is terrible... and now I think the GX and LX are dare I say good looking (so the real motivation to my purchase is a car for the wife that wont lose a significant amount of money in 3 years, has to be new, has to be a medium to large sized SUV and I don't want it to have 21 inch wheels that she can destroy)

I really REALLY wanted an F-pace... BUT... the glitchy infotainment kills me. The buggy emissions equipment kills me. I don't want my wife in a Jag rental car more than her actual car... and thats the way the new range rover has been for me. The 13 we have has been KILLER! Not a single problem... but the newer has just been little BS issue after BS issue. I am in the car biz and I just need sometime dependable and nice.

I feel like you guys might hold an intervention for me because of this post

Only speaking for myself, I never begrudge anyone their taste in vehicles, particularly when it comes to design/style. To each his/her own. Whatever makes you happy, go for it. I personally may not like a design, but I understand the human need to satisfy your wants and desires when it comes down to aesthetics. It would be a very boring world if we all wind up in those Google self driving pods.
Some of the cars I see on Ferrarichat and the net make me cringe. So what. I don't own them, and I don't have to look at them. I say knock yourself out and do what you like. If it happens to lacerate my eyeballs..........so be it. ;)

i will internally judge those whose creative tastes i think are awful. but i wont tell them or try and debate it.

Just to be clear however, it was Jaguar that copied the vertical taillight design theme from Cadillac, not the other way around. Cadillac has OWNED vertical taillamps for going on 70 + yrs, since 1948. When Jag decided to do their verticals several yrs ago, I was speechless.

But it would appear these days, that anything goes......from the Bangle deckled, to the ubiquitous front end designs that are the front de jour, brand recognition has been a victim. BMW, Rolls, Lambo, etc have been consistent with their brand character design languages.
    Jaguar.....vertical taillamps? Seriously?

    LOL well I appreciate it.

I would like to go on record and say that I wish it looked different. The bass mouth with a rubberband tieing it together is not a great look.

Id much rather have the Jag or the new rover sport.

I am a huge BMW nut and worked for bmw for many years. But all my and my familys car after the 07 model year became uglier... rode worse and worse... and then started to break down. so... the new x5 has major packaging issues.

The car with the biggest packaging issue and no one EVER brings it up is the q7. What the hell is wrong with those guys... nice truck... but its a very very large vehicle but when you finally sit in the back seat... you look around and go... where did all of the space go in this thing? Where is all the room? Nice interiors and all but incredibly wasteful

Personally, I think that is a stretch. You are crediting him with far too much scope, IMO.

I look at the deckled on the ATS V as having been influenced by the original Bangle layer cake decklid look. Certainly not the same, but 'influenced' by :)

Not to be annoying but... I think the Bangle butt had less to do with the layer cake, which has been around forever, and more to do with the way the trunk lid wrapped over the back and looked like it was from a different car, forced into an existing opening.

That Volvo layer cake came a couple years before the 7 series but also was an evolution of the Volvo layer cake from the early 90's (850)

Ok I know I am getting off topic here... but... I sent a picture of a an Aston martin DB7 GT coupe to a friend of mine and I said I think this is one of the most beautiful cars ever made.

His reply... and he is a big car guy was... "It looks really dated"

I feel like someone just kicked my dog! LOL Does the DB7 GT coupe look dated to you? I know its not current or modern... and well a 57 chevy or 540k roadster looks dated too I suppose... I guess I would call it timeless?

On the contrary, I think it's an beautiful design. In my mind it's one of those 'classic designs' that stands the test of time.
It certainly is an older design. But some designs wear quite well.
Oh, and everyone has their own opinion..........right or wrong!

I think its the closest thing to modern design perfection. To me it is stunning and elegant and sporty and classy and I just don't know how the car will ever look bad or out of place. The car is just gorgeous from stem to stern
