Appreciate it. I wonder if Fairfax County uses the same for exotics. I'll have to give them a call.

20 years ago I landed a doctor job in VA after residency. After a discussion about what size "farm" I should buy and how to register my obviously "illegal" cars I sped 45 minutes south to TN. VA earns the name "communist" daily.

Part of proof of residence and therefore being legal for Montana tags should be being able to find it on the US map and perhaps having set foot in the state at least once. :)

Yup. I think I've seen it at our local Cars and Coffee as well. I snapped a picture but thought discretion for a neighbor might be the better route.

I think there are actually TWO white LFA's in our area.

The one with Montana plates did come to the Leesburg Cars and Coffee once.

The other one goes to Katie's every now and then and does not have Montana plates on it.

I think I was standing next to you when you took that pic. The owner wasn't around.

Yep, I think you were. :)

Here's the view of the LFA from the front.

Reading this thread makes me realise just how much freedom has been stolen by the unaccountable bureaucrats that have taken over power in the different states. What a sad and oppressive country this has become.

I was thinking about this thread over the weekend, as I was behind a few U-Haul and Penske trucks/trailers. How do they get away with out of state plates?

Is it because they are registered to a business? Most were AZ or FL plates, where presumably there isn't an inspection. Or what about some rental car fleets?

If it's because they are a business, isn't that the EXACT thing the Montana LLC provides? You are titling the property as a Montana BUSINESS, and as a Business, it does not have to "relocate" in 60 days.

How do the rental car/truck firms get past this? And if so, why can't you?

The answer to my question above, is that "daily rental vehicles" are exempt from property tax. So that would be my Montana LLC, Exotic vehicle rentals... Hope this helps.

The retirement plans for Member of Congress, I assume is who you are refering to as "Politicians", are the same as for any Federal Employee. They pay in from their salary and are not vested until serving a minimum of five years. Insider Trading is banned as investments have to be kept in blind trusts while they are in office and there medical plans actually suck now that they have to use the DC Health exchange(ObamaCare) rather than the standard Fed Health Plans(aside from access to Walter Reed, which they also have to pay for out of pocket) they have no special medical plans.

Yep, the DotCom bubble burst eliminated the chance to rid the Commonwealth of the car tax. Until someone comes up with an acceptable replacement for the revenue, it will continue to exist. Still too many legit bills to pay even if we get rid of the waste.

The rules changed since I last had an "Antique" in the driveway. Thanks for the update. A bit more tedious than it used to be, but seems like it is worth the effort in most case.

Skip the wait. I'll trade you my 1988.5 Red/black Testarossa straight up for the 550. 😎Richard has maintained my car for over 20 years now, if interested.

Interesting idea, but I love my 550 too much.

Plus, Richard and Fernando just made it like brand new again.

Although, I think Testarossas are valued a little bit higher than 550's right now.

We can stop giving the data centers exempt status for sales and use tax. I would rather DRT, Dupont, Amazon, Equinix and others pay taxes vs. residents on their cars. There are other solutions.

I think in another 5-10 years, possibly sooner, our data infrastructure will be so strong here that the exemptions can be dropped completely because there will no where else to shop up shop that works. Until some other place, thinking central Utah, puts out tax incentives and invests in their infrastructure to pull those companies back out of here.

    rongotti, interesting article for sure.

I think my daily rental, with a Montana LLC is perfect. Just that nobody ever rents my cars, as the rates are $10k / day. Have I found my business model? Works for Uhaul, right? That's why all the out of state plates for daily rentals...

Is that happening in all of Va or only counties bordering other states ? Reason i ask is a friend recently relocated to Va Beach and will maintain a home in another state.

I just left Va Beach and was asking people as I might be relocating there, they all said out of state plates are no big deal there
