It's not really that bad. The car looks straight and the engine pics look like it was well cared for. This indeed to could a great project for somebody with the knowledge and means.

I don't know the value of the engine but, yes I was guessing similar...

I wonder what effect the heat had on the panels? (warping)? Look like a crap load of metal work would be needed.

As for the engine value it's a tough call. Who needs a BBi engine? Most rebuild the one they have so it's a very small market with almost zero demand.

I would LOVE to find a neglected Boxer for $150k, but this one has too many issues.

The fire was in the front of the car, little to no damage to the engine compartment which is unusual. Electrical fire?

I saw this a week or so ago, thought the same thing. I have a lot of resources to make it happen..but the damage is just so extensive and the asking price is ridiculous considering what needs to be done..

Ugh, what a waste. This guy I think will be sitting on this for a very long time, at that price.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess they replaced it to make moving the car around easier.

    Hi Tony,

I got my Halon of the net, forget where. Need to make a mount - mine is in front trunk now (less than ideal)

Was told smoke started behind the dash on the passenger side once the a/c was turned on. Either a/c blower motor or more likely fuse block.

Whoever bought it, I sure hope they will at least run important parts like steering shaft and pedal components through a heat treatment company so the metal has identical properties compared to new.
