What's his opinion of the original Jaguar XK-E? Dated?

Widely considered one of the most beautiful designs ever.

 

There must be a lot of most beautiful designs ever but I've got to agree with you. The Series 1 Coupe has to rank up there with the Talbot-Lago T150-C SS, the Corvette Split-Window Coupe, the Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 Stradale and the Dino 246 GT Coupe. Too many more to list but that's my top 5.

 

Well...

actually... he hates that car and think its the ugliest car ever made. Not even kidding. Only person whom I have ever met who thinks the car is hideous. Now.... he and I typically agree on style of damn near everything... but not these two...

Funny to one of the other commenters... he has a 63 split and loves it.

 

I like the back ends... I think they are elegant vs the chopped off tails... I think they stole a little aston on those rear decklids...

Also I am not a Benz guy AT ALL... but I really like those new grills... SO SPARKLY... LOL I think they are beautiful!

I see VW for sure in the rear... Also, for some reason... and I could be wrong... I see honda accord coupe on the rear quarter glass.

The last gen Mercedes coupe had Accord coupe written all over it, this one is less but definitely in the side glass.

I like it.... other than the quilted "flame surfacing" as bangle would put it.

In the picture of the Furai, (top picture), the guy standing by the rear wheel is the designer, Bernard Lee, who moved to Tesla soon after doing this car.
The bald guy in the second picture is Truman Pollard. I worked with both of them at Honda, many years ago.

 

always thought the 'flush rails' were the coolest.........took us forever to finally get flush rails.......always tripping over the damn things

 

flush rails?
still doing flat fender lips unfortunately.

 

sorry, the rail system is how the models are milled/measured, etc.
historically, they sat on top of the floor which made it difficult to move around the car
now they are buried into the floor and hence 'flush' with the floor surface
