I need advice on tire size for my '08 F430. I am upgrading to Challenge wheels from stock and am also getting new tires as it's time. I was thinking of increasing the profile from 35/19 to 40/19 to possibly get a slightly smoother ride. Tire Rack tells me that this will increase the overall diameter a total of about 1". He was afraid to recommend them as he's afraid they may rub the inside of the fender opening when turning at speed or over bumps. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Were you using Dunlop run flats? They will be a very firm ride. Personally I wouldn't change the profile.

i changed the width from 225 to 235 in front and felt an improvement in ride quality. (same ratio)

also research the tire, some have softer sidewalls (better ride). My experience is PSS gives a great balance of performance and comfort and the side walls are on the softer side.

You don't want to increase tire diameter significantly (it is in your case)

Speedometer off, possible rubbing, lower performance.

Pick a tire with better ride quality. And / or run a little lower tire pressure for street driving

Actually the speedo will be more accurate. It's pretty far off from the factory and shows way too much.

Besides the rubbing and the raised stance of the car, the worst thing is that the larger diameter will act as a longer final drive ratio. This will make the car slower and less responsive - so will the added weight further out on the circumference of the wheels. If the OP wants more comfort by increasing tyre profile significantly, get a set of 18" rims. Other option is to go with slightly wider tyres and use a model of tyre that in itself has a high level of comfort i.e Michelin Pilot Supersport. They are available in 235/35R19 and 295/35R19. They will perform on a completely different level of what was available at the time of the release of the F430. They are some of, if not the best performance street tyre out there currently. To me, that's the no-brainer option.

A little add-on to the suggestion of wider tyres. You will need 8" wide rims up front to do this. Minimum rim width for 235/35R19 tyres is 8" and the 430 comes with 7.5" as standard. You could look into a set of Scud rims as they are 8"x19" front and 10"x19" rear. Otherwise just stick with Michelin Pilot Supersport in 225/35R19 up front. Great riding tyre.

Thanks everyone for the advice! Same thing that Chris from Exoticars said.
