This article states that some cars are modified. 2016 Shift Sector Exotic Airstrip Attack Round 1
I get that. But that's not a race if we know the outcome, it driving super fast in a controlled environment. It does look super fun.
A lot of the owners know each other, so there would be no point in lying about mods to the cars. Also a lot of the owners own multiple cars. Back to the topic, if the f12 truly was a legit 740hp car it should be doing 162-165 in the 1/2 mile. It's far from that, true trap speed from several f12s indicate about 660-680hp. The dyno we all saw at psi also came back at 680hp. That's kind of my point. I don't believe I discovered this it's been known/hinted at for a long time. It's when I come on fchat and make a thread the guys with mondials and 308s loose their minds.
I think this is the relevant part from the article: This made for an interesting dynamic. Since most of the exotics in attendance were what we would call relatively stock (dealership windshield banners and aftermarket wheels don't really count, do they?), the more expensive models routinely got upstaged by cars costing a fraction of their price. Squeaking in just under the $150K mark, Nigel Colon's 2014 991 Porsche Turbo posted the fastest trap speed Saturday, at 175 mph, in part thanks to its ungraded impellers (inside stock compressor housings), bolt-ons and tuned ECU — 4 mph faster than even the lone, 1,100hp Bugatti Veyron in attendance could muster. Faster and cheaper still (at least, when new) was the Visconti Nissan GT-R that went 208 the day after, posting the fastest speed of the entire event. ------------------------------------------------------------------ I guess people want to believe what they want to believe.
I would be really surprised with the 660-680 HP to be honest with you. I just chalked it up to being heavier, a GT car, etc. It's definitely a fun car and probably the one I felt the most uncomfortable driving at high speeds. (it felt pretty scary).
You own one so I listen. Would you say it's a legit 740hp? In your case it should be a bit more due to mods.
I'm just going to state the obvious-it's disapointing where Ferrari rates in both straight line performance and track performance. For sure they are the most beatiful designs, sound the best IMO but when it comes to actual performance, while they should be king of the hill, they are not. It's not everything, emotion/raw ect but it's a thorn in Ferraris side and it actually ticked me off how much faster my 991tt is than the 458 I drove. BUuuut, I agree the over all expereince Ferrari creates is unmatched and that can't be overlooked. It would be the icing on the cake if they could perform better/faster IMO Can't have it all I suppose
Ferrari are producing a car that is very very fast, certainly fast enough, and handles to a point where even plonkers can get to a high level of fun and enjoyment in safety. Chasing 1/4 or 1/2 times would be ridiculous requiring changes to handling and suspension that would then impact on the overall experience of such a highly strung, eminently capable car Bring your modded rice rockets and old iron to a track such as the ring, and try to do some lap times against similarly capable drivers in the latest ferraris. They'd be parked up eating burgers before you finished
What can i say? I expected it to perform better. Many people who I know that own multiple brands will generally bring their non ferrari exotic to a speed event. (shift sector type events or tracking). I fully expected f12 to be the fastest exotic outside of p1/918/lveyron and it wasn't. That doesn't make it a bad car by any means but definitely a blow to the ego when you know it has the extra horses over the lambos and mclarens.
Chalk this up to just another thing that someone wants that Ferrari ain't gonna make. A manual Ferrari, a modern day Dino, a V12 spider any Ferrari buyer can buy, a car you can drive to the track and race in, the fastest car in the world, and so forth. -F
You guys keep talking about racing. Racing should involve some corners, breaking, apex and possibly some endurance over a few laps. 1/4 and 1/2 miles arent "racing".
Yet... It's okay though 04G, You're right, my car is slow. But claiming that I and others are losing our minds is bit of a stretch. As a happy owner of a modest performing, Ferrari, I can say it hasn't prevented owning a Ferrari from being a pleasant experience. Couple things are going on here. You've admitted your trolling, so you're getting the expected response, I know being the "innocent victim" being bullied is part 2 of trolling as "you're just here to ask a serious question" - but I don't mind playing along: I think you're right there are faster cars than Ferrari. I also believe in the results you see in the Shift S3ctor events you attended are as exactly as you described - that the drag strip winners were in non-Ferrari. Objectively my old NSX was better than my Mondial. I still prefer the Mondial because I like the way it makes me feels. In the end, that is what matters right - what gives you happiness? To you, a car that is six mph more in the speed trap at a 1/2 mile gives you more fulfillment and contentment for said car. More power to you, I won't try to convince you away from what's important in cars for you, or what marques to own. I must say, though if your attitude on this forum is representative of those that value above all if their 1/2 mile clocked in at 160 vs. 155, I am glad I do not share your values. But some parting questions, since you believe that Ferrari is at best instruments of milquetoast, did you buy your 458 in vain? Do you plan to part with it? Also, why were you interested in a salvage title Ferrari 360, if in your words: "they are so slow." I also see that the (Vin: ZHWGU11SX4LAxxxxx) of the Gallardo you posted is salvage title as well, and the used Bently (SCBCR63W86Cxxxxx) was a steal (well done). I try to stay away from accident cars myself, but that's just because I am a little bit more risk averse. I know they can be tremendous values, though, and I do not judge you for it, are you in the salvage car business? Is the 458 and 911T some gems you acquired? I am also involved in Droid & Friends and The Apple Driver's club as well. Do you participate in the SCCA? Curious what trophies you speak of that you say you won? Usually that at least something that one should be proud to disclose.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_24_Hours_of_Le_Mans Like I said, the end is nigh. The 488 LMGTE Pro only got second place this year. They only beat 3 of the 4 GT40 teams, the 2 Aston Martin teams, the 2 GM teams, and the 2 Porsche teams. Yeah only the Ferrari LMGTE AM got first place this year...shucks.
Haha Michael, do you do the south bay or north bay drives? I'm missing the FOG Rally, but plan to do the Oct 2nd South Bay drive. Hope to meet you soon (if we have not already) Naseem look forward to meeting you in the the next north bay drive, (I have the opposite problem being down in MP) - were you at the Ferrari Challenge in Sonoma this year? I went Saturday, but was scared to on the track cuz it was raining - I went last year too, it was perfect weather then. Cheers
There are probably valets or details posting as owners taking keys out and photos..talking about power.
Where are you at 04G? Perhaps a drag race? Your Lambo or something else from your vast fleet of exotics against one of our under powered Ferraris? I'm sure somebody would be more than happy to be humiliated by your faster car just to meet you. I'm near Chicago and could oblige with my 400i, it's slow and I'll race you for money against anything you've claimed to own that has title in your name. How about it, Sport?
As a long time multi car enthusiast ... There is nothing enlightening with this post. Ferraris are RWD and cars with AWD can launch quicker. The aero on the Ferraris is probably more aggressive at speed to have traction on corners. Also a boosted car makes massive torque early on whereas the Ferrari builds torque later, therefore in a drag race ... The Ferrari will be playing catch up. Seems the OP being a car guy and experienced track monkey would have known this BEFORE he bought his 458. Ferraris are more about curvy roads than straight line stuff. I don't even own a Ferrari and I know this.
I really don't want to stick a toe in this pool, because I could care less about 1/4 or 1/2 mile times. Just. Don't. Care. But, I understand some do. It's been known for quite a while that customer cars often don't meet the claimed-by-SpA bhp ratings. So, no new news there. It's also been known that the cars that are "officially" tested get special attention and that SpA does not want owners lending their own cars out for tests. It's not unreasonable to want the equipment to be working at its' best (or the conditions, tires, fuel, driver or whatever to generate optimal results), but asking the question of why so much control isn't unreasonable. It's been asked repeatedly. Is it, possibly, because some people put so much stock-in-trade into these times? Honestly, SpA is probably sold-out of "performance" cars for years to come, and a disappointing result on a drag strip isn't going to change that, I don't think. For many, just acquiring and owning a Ferrari IS the experience. Not, necessarily, what it can do in a straight line (remember the scene from Fast and Furious?). I'd certainly like for SpA to be more honest in their numbers: if they claim it's rated at X bhp, it ought to generate that much bhp. I don't care if it's generating that at the crank, though, as it's what's at the wheels that matter. Every manufacturer has that problem, though. Nevertheless, the guy (or gal) driving their Ferrari away at the end of the day, regardless of the results, likely has a smile on their face. And, they're the subject of much envy. Accept it or don't. That said, I still felt compelled to respond directly to your comment. Ferraris have a LONG history of success in road racing. I could cite to many victories (overall, as well as in class). So, I think you're a bit off in your question. And, racing results are increasingly (but disappointingly) dictated by BoP. In fact, so much so that teams in IMSA are just throwing in the towel and not showing up. Those are Porsche teams, btw, which Porsche also has a LONG history of success at the track (I mean twisty and not drag strip). Had ACO not "accommodated" Ford, the Ford GTs would not have finished 1st IC at Le Mans this year. The 488 would have. Carry on... CW
I wondered what sort of excuse/reply I'd get. I suppose this as good as any that could be expected from a troll as you. Top tip for you; nobody likes a bull ****ter.
I thought we were talking about road cars. So f430, 458, 488, 599, 612, f12, ff, Cali, laferrari, etc. any of them setting winning road course times? Since everybody was shouting that straight line doesn't matter and it's all about the corners. Or are we back to "Ferrari is about the feeling it gives you" sales line ?
So you want to race me in your 400? Do you realize how redicolous that would look. If you post a stupid challenge what kind of a response do you expect.
