It was pretty large as far as outages go. Most of my area was out. This time of year, is when we get the most outages. Lots of falling tree branches and even trees. Usually I have the generator and its no big deal.

Picked up a couple 16 oz ribeyes last night at Winn-Dixie. They had USDA Choice on sale for $6.99/lb versus the regular price of $12.99. I haven't tried their beef in years, but it was the closest store so I hope I won't be disappointed. Those who have lived in the south will recognize Winn-Dixie's slogan as "The Beef People": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGJsaI0_-1U

LOL. Never saw that ad. Lived in the South for a long time, so I have heard the slogan. When I was a starving student at UF, I eschewed Winn Dixie, and shopped at Publix - cheaper prices and better looking cashiers. 😀 Food 4 Less when we were particularly strapped for cash, since they had the most extensive dented can aside in town!

Making an Asian inspired soup using some herbs & spices that a colleague brought back from Pakistan when she went to visit her family this past summer. Fenugreek and dried lemongrass. Diced bell peppers, onions, celery & rutebaga. Carrots, rough chopped. Corn, sliced off the cob. Yellow miso. A little garlic powder. At the end, I'll add in some already cooked white rice.

An hour or so more simmering to go.

Who are you feeding with all that?!

I'm trying to figure out what to throw in the wok. I'm not really that hungry but I haven't used it in months and kind of miss it. Left over stir fry is always good I guess.

Go to grocery store, get some pre-prep'd veggies and chicken/beef. It costs more than doing the prep yourself, but it'll your life easier, and reduce the activation barrier to using your neglected wok! :)

I've been on a cooking mission today while listening to NFL games and getting a little bit of work done. First, an Asian-inspired veggie soup for dinner tonight with leftovers for later in week. Now doing tofu chili. Ate out twice last week, so need a few feel-good meals to make up for the heavy ones we had last week. If it defrosts in time, which I doubt, I'll make a big batch of chicken leg soup and store in the freezer for use next week...T

The precut veggies may be the way to go in the future.

I'm still trying to master the tofu. I boiled it before slicing and throwing in the wok but it still fell apart... Tell me about this tofu chili. That sounds perfect for the weather coming up.

    That looks pretty tasty.

Tofu chili = sweat an onion, red bell pepper. Can of tomato paste. Can of water. Can of red kidney beans. Cube a package of extra firm tofu. Package of Williams chili seasoning. Simmer for a couple of hours. It's not as satisfying as the real deal, but it's easy to whip up, and taste is not bad, especially with hot sauce and over some white rice. Or, with corn bread...T

I'm lazy and take my clothes to a Laundromat that does it for you for a small fee. Its worth the $30 to $40 per week. Nicely folded and wrinkle free. Burger King is in the same parking lot as the laundry place. Dang the 10 chicken nuggets for $1.99 got me craving nuggets. Ended up doing BK.

Post # 4436, if same recipe.

We had the tofu chili I made yesterday for dinner tonight. Over some white rice, with a little sharp cheddar and hot sauce.

Wings smoked for 3 hours 10 minutes at 225 - dipped in sauce before smoking and then halfway done, again- it basically caramelizes in the end and soaks up the smoke flavor too-
Smoked with hickory pellets- cookshack smoker -

Sauce - hoisin sauce, general tso, I just buy the bottles of pre-made and mix together - then mixed with fresh chili pepper mash and ponzu sauce and sesame oil -

Had a Sister in town from Alaska for the weekend. We tried a new place for bfast Saturday and it was really good. She had corned beef hash that they make it all themselves, really good. I had a chicken fried steak that was almost half the plate and just about hung over on either end. Really good food. Should have taken some pics I guess.

Saturday she brined up some chicken with lime/garlic and other stuff. Grilled it up and had rice. Yesterday she made homemade Chicago style stuffed pizza and we had wings.

I had to come back to work today and eat leftovers but after today I'm going to eat chicken and veggies for about two weeks. :) Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend as much as I did!!

Yeah she used Trader Joe's dough, which I like anyway. Although I think in Chicago they usually put in raw sausage and cook it all together, she cooked the sausage first and put in onion, peppers, and olives. It was good. I've never thought about making it before.
