Simple question (I think). Looking to replace plugs on my F430 (with NGK (6378) PMR8B's). Appears straightforward. Can someone tell me how to remove the coil packs off the plugs? Pictured here. They pull straight off? They rotate off? Has me a bit perplexed, and obviously don't want to wreck anything . Any help is appreciated! Image Unavailable, Please Login
You must first disconnect the electrical connector. The yellow plastic lock prevents the connector release from being depressed. Use a small screwdriver slide the yellow plastic lock out a little ways, then depress the release on the electrical connector and slide it off of the coil. The coil then pulls straight out. Sometimes corrosion makes it hard to come out. You can wiggle it a little bit or use a small pry bar/large screwdriver between the cam cover and the coil pack to free it up. You cannot turn it because it is keyed with a tab that fits in a slot in the cam cover. There will probably be corrosion at the coil sealing surface of the cam cover. I clean it up with a scotch-brite pad before removing the spark plug and then blow it out with compressed air. I use a little dielectric grease on the seal area of the coil pack to make future removal easier.
Big thanks, appreciated the quick response. Will give it a try. Remove the plugs, new ones in, tighten to 10Nm (from what I've read), coil packs back on. Power back connected, Ignition on pos 1 10-15 sec, pos 2 10-15, start. Sound about right?
