Hi all, quick technical question. I have been told that it is standard Ferrari practice to use sealant alongside a new Front timing cover gasket on an F430... is this true? I have quite a lot of mechanical experience from my Moto x days, and have never heard of this, but Ferraris being the special beasts they are, I thought I would check you you guys. My car developed an oil leak at the bottom of this gasket and is currently being worked on to replace the gasket. I questioned the dealer about the use of sealant and he said it's standard on the particular gasket...thoughts?

Nothing wrong with that, providing they use the right stuff. Reduces the chance of the same leak as u r effectivly glueing it as well.

A thin schmear of sealant is acceptable. If any oozed out, then too much was used... excise it if ya want for appearance sake.

A Ferrari is 'special' in many ways but in the end it is just a motor vehicle.

The Ferrari cam covers (I have a Maserati) have a gap for the gasket so a new one is slightly compressed. The rubber gasket eventually hardens and you get leaks. A bit of high temp silicone sealant will stop that. I put a small bead into the cam cover first and then smear the gasket face against the head.

A small amount of sealant on EVERY gasket in every engine and cooling system is what I do.

I just replaced the thermostat on my Mums car yesterday. I got a little lazy and didn't get the Loctite 515 sealant I use and guess what...............it's bloody leaking coolant today isn't it.

I will get it back next weekend and sort it, lucky it's only literally a 2 minute job.

Hondabond is Pappy's favourite to use on engines. Or Toyota black. Both great stuff. :D

The HB is very predicable to work with and is my favorite too. Whenever I use something else I seem to be fighting with how thick it is or how sticky, etc. The HB goes on like cream and creates professional results everytime.

The horse is back in the stable 😄 I can't believe I could have missed a car as much as I did. Oil leak repaired. Happy days!

Always a fan of Hondabond, only other go-to I use is the red hi-temp Permatex.
