Those new Vettes are an unbelievable bang for the buck. That quarter mile is almost under 10 seconds. I just have a hard time getting my head around that for a bone stock street car at less than 80,000 used.
Six years ago when I acquired my 81 GTSi I posted some pics in the new members section. The interior of my car has been modified by the previous owner with the addition of a center console section filling the gap. The console now contains a period Alpine stereo, Kenwood amp/equalizer, and an Alpine alarm system. The console is matching tan leather and was done very well. The car also had an Oki Cell phone replacing the ashtray (which I wish I had). My original intent was to remove and restore the interior to original but a few in the thread said to leave it alone and that what made it unique. No one was talking about the affect in its value back then. What would the 308 gang say now? I'm curious. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Well, I'm gonna go out on a limb and give you my unedited thoughts. IMHO, it really looks awkward. Especially the contrast of color at the top and the flat front. The attachment method on the sides reminds me of Frankenstein's neck....Sorry! Maybe others will like it
No need to be sorry it's an opinion. I didn't like it either at first but I haven't felt any great urge to deconstruct it and so it has remained for the six years I have owned the car. There's a lot of wiring behind it that's going to have to be dealt with if I do remove it. I took others advice and have enjoyed the driving and owning the car and giving attention to the mechanicals which it sorely needed. Get ready. You're not going to like what I'm doing with my other set of HRE505's. Check out the "Love or hate it, I've gone gold" thread. I'm also modifying a couple of Porsche 914's to be flared GT tributes. We have the same sort of threads on the 914World site too.
I have also taken the car to the FCA Pasadena Concours a. Couple of times for display and it's amazing how many people I catch taking photos of the inside to catch the console and the cell phone. Many have said don't touch it "It's so 80's" and they love it. I'll probably redo it if prices reach 246 levels some day.
when i got my 1977 308gtb it was to me a dream come true. however, one thing become annoying and a restriction. the reflected glare from the vinyl fascia was horrendous. i talked to claire at kent performance about this and she recommended a recover in alcantara. i raised the subject of originality, we agreed this is an enhancement. it has made LIB 308 a much nicer car to drive, day or night. i cant be the only 308 to have come across this. also, i have upgraded the front brakes, pistons, ignition (map-able), cooling system. LIB 308 has benefited from these "adjustments", so pay your money and take your choice.
My bad then ! My plan is to have them on Friday so I can take the car to C&C Aliso Viejo on Saturday. New windshield is due in any day and the car is schedule to have it installed as soon as possible. I'll post pics on Friday if I get them on. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I agree on the dash, but I took a reversible approach and used a Dashmat product: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VExsMNs6I78 Image Unavailable, Please Login

I did an EFI conversion in 2006, which I luv. Then I did a Hayubusa throttle body conversion. I was amazed that I got even more torque out of my motor with this setup and I didn't do a bunch of computer modeling or reverberation analysis ... just built the intake with common sense. I autocross and track my car and just let the lap times and results speak for themselves. There's a lot of guys on here that down play the performance potential of the 308. I think they would benefit from stepping away from the keyboard and actually driving a properly prepared car. Hell I've had guys at the Porsche club I run with tell me they've driven "well prepared" 360's that were slow after I beat them down with my 308. Yes .. they think my 308 is faster than a 360 ... maybe on courses where we're not getting over 100 mph ... maybe? but all I know is I send a lot of a guys to therapy every time I autocross it . As I've told many on here that say "this car" is faster or "that car" is faster than your 308 ... "Not with YOU driving" .
On 6 different tracks since about 2003 it totally and completely cured the problem. I went from the needle slamming the far right with light on and noise ( worst at TigPrix on the counterclockwise course ) to not even a flicker of the needle ever again anywhere. In 23 years of seat time on tracks, that windage tray has been the single most satisfying mod second only to Hoosier slicks that I ever experienced. How could you possibly have any idea of how it affected this common problem on my car? "not even close" my ass How could you possibly know what I went though?
What shocks and anti roll bars were u running? What were you're alignment specs? I got the impression ur car was pretty much stock as far as suspension no?
Totally stock except wheels, tires, and brakes. I have never run an autocross before, only non-oval tracks. Perhaps that is the difference. For what it is worth, if you can drive aggressively enough to send the needle to the far right continuously at TigPrix, Road Atlanta, Savannah, VIR, Barbers and Roebling, the windage tray is the answer. Autocrossing, I have no experience so I cannot speak on that.
What I cann report, unequivocally, is that an Accusump is worthless under the same conditions at the same locations. Perhaps a 10% improvement - so I'm calling that nothing. Don't bother. As I said before, if it didn't serve a pre-oiling purpose now, I would have thrown it in the garbage 15 years ago.
okay glad you clarified that ... so you are saying it's a 100% cure for a 308 with bone stock suspension ... which isn't very impressive since the spring rates are such a joke. In addition, you can't get any significant negative camber up front with the stock control arm forks so they push like pigs.... then there's suspension bushings... I thought 100% cure included modified 308's ... sorry. Comparing a stock 308 to a modified 308 doesn't make a lot of sense does it? Unless you think a stock 308 is just as fast as a modified one because it rolled out of Maranello optimized?! LOL! Only difference between autocrossing and big tracks is it takes more balls to go 10/10 on big tracks. cheers
The simple fact is is that the windage tray does in fact work exactly as described, and is an invaluable addition to any 308 and any owner that wants to enjoy FCA track events in their car without risking engine damage. I have proven it time and time again. Period. It is simply a no-brainer modification which is what this thread is all about, right? 99% of the 308 users here don't modify a car like you do so your 308 - which we all have clearly gotten the message is the best 308 in the world and you are the best 308 driver in the world and you know more about set-up that anyone here. I believe we have gotten the message loud and clear. Your posts boasting of how great you are behind the wheel does remind me of the old adage, "He who is humble is confident and wise. He who brags is insecure and lacking"
Dr. Tommy, I'm not siding with anyone here, I just want to say that I've met and been to luckydynes place. I've seen his cars and I've seen his work and I must say he does know what he's doing and know what he's talking about. And as far as the best driver, nah! He is not, I'm the best driver.
He is probably a great guy but I'm not sure where he is getting his information that that little tray doesn't "even come close" to curing the problem. I have about 15 years and a couple thousand track miles that shows that it does work. In my case, it was exactly a 100.00% improvement. It is a great mod. I am interested in his ignition set up, though.
