Hello ! I may have the opportunity to be allocated one of 350 ( 70 cars per current production model ) one off models to celebrate Ferrari's 70th anniversary . Does anyone have any views on the value they may carry in the future ? Apparently Ferrari specs the car for you !

Try looking up some of the other threads from a couple of months ago when the plans were first revealed - I think the longest was in the 488 section

If they spec it with brown paint that matches your eyes and with bright blue leather that matches your wife or SO's eyes, with a gold stripe just cause'.... probably not too well..

Quaint to have an homage to the past.. but I can't say I'd pay a penny more for any of those color schemes over a regular car.

    Clearly just for profit..

I find it bad for the real machines which carried the colours and the numbers in the past. Ferrari's marketing in this is really a failure. Nothing can't replace the old cars with the specific liveries. Just a clear profit....

    I find it 'stupid'..

    Absolutely. Honoring a front engine v-12 with a mid-engine turbo V8? uh...

The "Tour de France" is just the regular F12 and not the TDF.

It is cringe worthy. It sounds like something a toy company from China would do.

Some are nice (very few) but then again, they are just regular models with a nice color
    (Mcqueen, the Fangio)..

I still cant believe this is how they are celebrating their 70th...

Isn't that what the car was to begin with? It's just a repainted Lusso in brown. While I think it's one of the Ferrari's I love most I recognize the Lusso wasn't a racing car so I don't expect it to be a special La Ferrari edition. I really don't see why people complain, I think this is cool you can get this from the factory instead of watching someone try to attempt it themselves. All the old racing cars and their histories are what makes Ferrari Ferrari. While some people may disagree and think that the car in vintage period was not relatable to the newer models I think the education and the "press" any of the vintage cars like Moss SWB themed livery is great for the enthusiast and the continuation of the history. A great way to teach the younger generation.

Yes the Mcqueen Lusso was just that. It is one of the few i liked. I think it's a poor way to celebrate the birthday. Esp since it's something people have been doing already through the Atelier for a few years already.

Just lazy and quick way to make money. I guess, id be happier if they did something in addition to this with a special car or a special version of a car (HP, wheels, weight, etc...) You mention history..i remember when they celebrated their 40th with something truly special. Maybe the LAF Aperta is what they consider their tribute car?

Imagine how cool a 488 Speedster would be. Or a F12 Barchetta. They can go crazy, anything will sell out in hours.

I must be one of the few who likes some of these homages to the past. In a way this is more accessible relatively speaking to existing Ferrari owners than perhaps 10 hugely expensive virtual one offs.

Make no mistake some of these liveries don't work but there are some which look good to me, the stripped out 488 GTB is quite something, the Phil also looks good.

I was on the Ferrari stand at Paris today and took some pictures of these cars. Was posting them here but the moderators moved my thread to Siberia. I will start a new thread later and post some more of these and others on the stand. I thought they looked cool but you can spec your own through Tailor Made and make it just as unique. No idea about future value.

The Aperta has been on the web and Instagram for weeks. That is cool, but not a surprise.

Not really impressed with the others as special editions.

I was hoping they'd actually be different. Something a little of the way to the SP cars... different bodywork or styling. Instead they have... different paint. Wow... way to go to celebrate being 70 SF!

Without documentation accompanying a Special Edition, I wonder if counterfeiting might be a problem in future years. Think of all the Indy Pace cars and Anniversary editions of Miata, Datsun, Corvette, Buick, etc. over the years that are easy to duplicate with a paint gun and decals.

I can appreciate many of them. Some seem off because of not relating to their "inspiration" but there are som sharp cars in the group.

I believe it said each will have a plaque inside...

I find all the negative comments interesting. I for one, am growing tired of special edition ferrari's being cars that can't really be driven on the road (Enzo, LF) and being examples I will only see in magazines or online for sale for $3.8 million.

Ferrari is no longer a business where Enzo sits in the corner office like Picasso and directs traffic. F likely realized that most of their customers will never use the horsepower that already exists, and adding 40 more or this or that for a special edition is pretty much lost on any buyer - but spec lovers are interested in the topic (i like specs too).

I have often thought it would be interesting to have an F car with a white circle over the front right headlight a-la some of the 250's and 275 racers...and big white dots on the doors. I really also like those stripes that come down around the nose of the car like some kid drew it - something is raw and basic about it (nostalgic i guess).

So, although I can understand the expectation for the next 'super car' for the 70th, It would be cool to see these liveries running around with normal-ish ferrari buyers driving them, not so challenging and difficult to drive around as a highest - horsepower of all time sort of vehicle, which many may have expected.

Certainly some of the adaptations of these won't work for everyone, but some of them I think are pretty cool and would look good in a collection, and I would anticipate that ONE of them won't cost 4X more than an already existing collection right out of the box.

    True!

But this implies that there's a buyer for the car that finds it in demand. I'm sure some nitwit collector might pay more for the special paintjob. Kind of like an adult matchbox collection. :)
If they're intended to be drivers cars, then you're right... why pay "premium" to have Ferrari paint a white dot on your doors and hood that gets chipped and stained during driving when you could do it yourself and save the $8000? ;)

It's also funny that the original cars that these were based on.. ACTUALLY WERE DRIVEN and tracked and used.

    mixed bag to me.

I am generally negative towards "special editions" that are, in reality, less special (eg. Indy 500 Pace Car, Eddie Bauer Ford Explorer, "Hooters Edition" F-150 or whatever. Hell, I don't even like special edition M&M's.

While I'm finding some of the designs very cool, the idea of having a retro race paint job on a modern car and deeming it a "Special Edition" is a bit of a reach, particularly at a premium.

I will say that if someone consciously went out and had the Atelier/TM spec a design that was exactly what they wanted, more power to them. I think that's awesome and good for Ferrari for offering that and making a few bucks on it. (just try and get your BMW or Corvette done this way - possible in concept, impossible in reality)

OTOH, proactively determining the portfolio and pre-marketing them as "collectibles" to me is a bit of a silly reach and demonstrates poor marketing. In fact, I think this counters what Sergio is trying to do about establishing and growing brand value at a luxury/scarce good player.

I'd anticipate that some folks will want them and love theirs, which is great. I do not think that these cars will retain any premium value at all; in fact ,other than the coincidence of someone specifically wanting Spec X, it might be a value reduction for the owner.

Totally agree with you. I like the Fangio colours a lot..but only the colours, nothing more and nothing less..
