I believe you're on the right track
I see it in the student work all the time
Not only does the technology empower the complex designs, but the designers themselves are in a 'look at me mode'
as you point out the fins/chrome phase in the '50's, the more complex you can make the design solution these days, the more attention you garner......Apple be damned
the 'art' of editing has taken a back seat to 'shock value' much like in movies & TV today
subtleties have taken a hiatus and have given way to see who can shock/shout the loudest
    every day's a new day...

LOL! I won't be able to unsee that! :D

Hmmm... imitating Lamborghini and doing it badly?

    Both overdone.

I'll risk being presumptuous and try to identify three schools of thought:
    1. Less is more
    2. More is more
    3. More is still not enough

These seem to fall into that last category. It's like the designers had attention deficit disorder when drawing lines on the car. I hope this trend is short-lived. :(

Vodka bar interior. Can't stand blue lighting - it's so cold and gimmicky. Associating it with nightclub scenes, it makes me feel sticky and unclean just to look at it.

Apart from that, it's a nice clean design. I'm assuming it's electric, hence the lack of a proper grill.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Will this trend pass soon or are we stuck with it for a while?

    All the best,
    Andrew.

I wish they would have kept the jerry can styling. I don't know why Land Rover thinks the need

    Xtra Large- Range Rover LWD
    Large- Range Rover
    Almost Large- Range Rover Sport
    Medium- Discovery
    Schmedium- Range Rover Evoque
    Extra Schmedium- Discovery Sport

They all have the look when you pull your dogs face back by its cheeks.

I do love the range rovers. LOVE THEM. I think the sport is the best looking SUV ever built.

But... Guys... Discovery... Discovery. There is nothing that has been discovered in the styling. It doesn't suggest Discovery like the last off road styled trucks did.

You have a brand within a brand. Discovery for offroad. Range Rover for ultra luxury and offroad and the range rover sport for well... sport...

This morning when i saw the discovery I thought to myself YES! Thats it... ill call land rover and order one.

Then I was at the traffic light this morning and was next to a new explorer..... and realized... hey thats the same c piliar... hey the backend is almost idential... Even the front end is kind of similar...

I was so happy that I wasn't going to have to buy a GX 460 this morning and now Im just confused.

I think it's right for the Land Rover to be modernised aesthetically, but the Range Rover should have remained very traditional - like a Bentley or Rolls, it needs to have a certain look about it.

Range Rovers are a statement. Classic, elegant, not particularly aerodynamic, and different. Streamlining it makes it look less special and more like every other SUV.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Interesting. Im no engineer but would have thought by now that any stamping process could be accomplished. And perhaps it can but $$$

I think several years we discussed the effect that Japanese anime is having on current design. So many, if not all, of todays designers grew up with Gundam and other crazy over styled anime.

    Its the Jagamarovette

The Hyundai, Honda and Lexus are particularly bad. Give me back my Mid-Century Modernism!

    I can agree with that.

They need to maintain there coventry look in my opinion.

They have an extremely rich heritage to not hark back on that with either the Range Rover or Discovery line seems like a miss.

I am good with either model. They should keep a seperation. Id be kinda pissed if I bought a 167k range rover and it gets mistaken for an Discovery sport.

Wow that is a strange surface, looks like honeycomb. Can you imagine trying to repair accident damage on that car :)
