I remember seeing it now at the Basel Ferrari expo now. It already struck me then. It's not as pretty as others GTO I have seen.

Ask the camera person. If this closeup was taken with some kind of wide angle lense this would give the front end an exaggerated wide front. There may have been limited room available and to get the whole car into the picture, a wide angle lense was used. tongascrew

I saw the car in person in Switzerland and had already thought to myself that it didnt look good/as pretty as the usual GTOs. I guess, as Wayne explained, the car has had a lot of scars and it shows.

Here she is in Switzerland :

Car was in the old Nürburgring museum for a long time. Behind it was a video wall with the Lauda story on it.Owned by Hartmut Ibing.

the first owner crashed the car once in 1962and rolled the car twice in 1963.These obviously required body work. Then when sold to Hans Hardt in 1965 a resto was done in the UK and the "nose job" was questionable. When you look at the pictures of the car when owned by von Czazy the front end had several different looks particularly around the front cowling opening. tongascrew

    Ferrari World...
I confirm. I also saw the car at the Basel Pantheon, and also at least 3 other times, and it's always the same odd sensation...

This new body will be part of this cars history.

I assume this 250GTO was Classiche'd, so a new body was required to return it to how it left the factory. Classiche won't certify a car that is not as it left the factory to my understanding.

I've found out that this 250 GTO, #3809GT, the subject of this thread, has its original GTO block in it today.

Note: The debate over which cars should be discussed in the Recreations & Non-Period Rebodies subforum, the meaning of the term "rebody", etc. has been split off into a separate thread so as not to sidetrack the discussion here on 3809 GT.

Paul, you haven't been paying attention, have you? He didn't refer to the car as a "rebody"; he correctly said the car had been restored and rebodied. :)

Me too. I have too much work to do. Besides, it's starting to get silly. Or maybe I am.
