My experience too. At this stage dealers will primarily have a list of clients who have expressed an interest, the majority being V12 customers of old. Considering that the F12 was initially a hard sell, interesting to note interest so high in this car.

I wonder if aggressive styling will be a surprise to the V12 GT style clients ?

Was the F12 initially a hard sell over in Europe? I think it was pretty strong here in the USA right from the start. My dealer still had a few people waiting for an allocation when they stopped, and I've heard similar things from other dealers. How was the economy in Europe at that time? Here it was OK.

Let's just hope it's not this kind of "aggressive & less elegant" ...

Was a good seller in Europe based on what I heard from my dealer in CH. stayed strong throughout - my dealer sold out his allocation for 2016 a year ago) and lower volume compared to the 599 which has helped the second hand value (hopefully it will continue 😀)

Different world to 599 era when held a premium for 18 months in U.K. F12 was never a frenzy car - great car but less money about. Offset by cheap credit maybe.

Ok yes, but 2006 when 599 launched was CRAZY. Beta for all !!! Mid ranking investment bankers pulling silly money and confusing their value with the seat they occupied.

It was, dealers were doing great deals to certain clients , then after 18 months it all changed, at least UK, prices got firmer. Maybe they were pushing too many cars at the start.

    You're doing the right thing
    Exactly

All dealers are Independent businesses and can craft their policies differently - My dealer does not take deposits either

I can only guess on the deposits and also if its true that there will be less F12berlinetta than 599GTB. On the volume my guess is the mania around the early cars caused them to try and give the dealers more product to move. And that meant the demand was satisfied too quickly and that caused the residuals to move down too quickly for many (yours truly included!). Also the 599 was in production throughout the financial crisis. Maybe the market for V12 production Ferraris was just a little bit gun shy with the F12 and maybe the product people at Ferrari figured its better for residuals and also to keep demand more consistent throughout the product life to be a little bit tighter with the supply here. I really think selling these cars is a tricky thing- I have to give Ferrari credit. On the one hand they have a super great, strong brand. You might think its easy. On the other hand, I also think its so easy to get it wrong and the market could turn on you.

As to deposits, I think you all make great points. I also have been told some dealers don't take deposits so they have more flexibility when deciding which clients will get a new model. From a client stand point, in the US, I think one might be better off having it in writing and having a deposit in for a car. This is a general comment, I am sure there are dealers where this won't apply, but I am also sure there are dealers where it could. Its great when the dealer knows you, but what happens when the dealer staff turns over? It does happen. The new team comes in and the only thing they know is what's on paper....

Prices were strong and demand high for the F12 in the US. Year old cars selling way over MSRP. Never saw a price/demand weakness and is a very successful car. The 2013s had lowest volume and stingy allocations at my dealership. Doesn't surprise me if volumes were lower than 599 especially in US.

Reports say the M will have an infotainment screen like the Lusso. I am intrigued to know how it will be fitted and will it be as big as the 10 inch in the Lusso?

What do you think about desirability of the F12M?

I am afraid it could be similiar to FF to Lusso upgrade. Or even worse when design will be more edgy and no longer PF beauty.

As much as I love performance, a mere 10% increase in horsepower alone would not do the job for me.

Clearly, it could go either way, although my money is on it being a massive hit. Preorders in the U.K. are off the charts and I think it will be far more radical that FF to Lusso. The danger is the classic beauty of the F12 is lost in a lamboesque evolution, but I doubt it. Hopefully.

I don't disagree. Around 85% of new Ferraris here are purchased via finance (Ferrari or otherwise) so not a huge decision to pre-order. People easily forget the new normal will not last forever. More interesting is the dramatic fall in Sterling. Will Ferrari be forced to raise prices? By how much and by when? That might kick start a reality check regarding future residuals, and financing. Net, I think the UK remains a very uncertain market. Might be why some dealers are taking deposits so early in the process.
