I have a chance to purchase a 2005 F430 Berlinetta, Argento Nurburgring on black, CF trim package, daytonas, steel brakes, with 27,xxx miles.

I feel that although the mileage is high, the fact that it's a manual trumps that fact. I drove the car and it felt good. Not much different than my 2200 mile 06 spider F1.

I fell in love from the first gear change.

I am thinking the the mileage should bring the price down a bit given that few F-cars see that kind of mileage.

Any thoughts on what would be a reasonable price assuming PPI checks out?

    27k miles is high? It's 47 miles/week!

I don't know why you guys want a car with manual transmission so bad, even paying a premium for it, if you are not going to drive it! Sitting in the garage it doesn't matter if it's manual of F1...

I have a Nov 07 build and I have 22000 on mine. So 27000 isn't excessive by any means but is more than most. Use it as a negotiating tool.

FWIW I drive mine whenever wherever I want with no regard for miles. Same with my GF and her Italia.

    Good luck.

I have an '05 3 pedal coupe I bought new. Coincidentally, it has 27K on it. Some of them track miles. If anything, it seems to run better now than at 10K. Sorry I can't help with the value.

I'm also convinced that track miles make high strung sportscars run better. Sitting in a garage and stop-and-go city driving, not so much. Therefore, I will never understand the fascination with low mileage examples.

I just bought a 2012 FF and the only thing that bugs me about the purchase is that it has only 2,700 miles after 4 years. More chance that I'll encounter unsorted gremlins, but it was the perfect spec so I bit the bullet.

Keep us in the loop on how the PPI goes and if you decide to move forward. There are so few manual 430s for sale overall, and even fewer manual coupes for sale than spiders, so it is very difficult to pinpoint what a reasonable price should be. If you watch the market, the dealers seem to be currently listing 430 manuals for pretty high prices knowing the rarity of the manual and holding out for the right buyer.

If you are willing to share what the seller is asking for the car, I think that would make it a lot easier for people to comment on if they think it is a fair price.

I also agree that 27,000 miles is very reasonable for a 2005. You hear over and over that these cars run better and have fewer problems when they are driven regularly. 27,000 is not out of line for a 2005 that was actually driven and didn't just sit in a garage.

I like to keep an eye on the Manual 430 market and with so few for sale I thought it would be interesting to compare the numbers with the other collectible 430 (and 360) models. The following numbers are from a search on cars.com of all cars for sale in the US (with inspection of the pictures on manual cars to make sure they are a true gated car and not just an F1 listed as manual).

    430 Manual Coupe- 6
    430 Manual Spider- 9
    430 Scuderia- 37
    430 16m- 14
    360 Challenge Stradale- 11

I found it interesting that there are significantly fewer Manual 430 coupes available for sale than the Scud (and the rare 360 CS) and fewer Manual Spiders for sale than the 16M which was supposed to be limited at 599.

This doesn't surprise me much, especially the scuds. It seemed to me when they were new, almost all of the 430 production was scuds, especially '09. Given the sticker price (300K+), they had to make a fortune on each copy. Not so sure about the 16M. It could be just the sample is too small or 16M owners don't see future appreciation and are more willing to sell vs stick owners who may think more appreciation is coming. I think the percentage of spiders with sticks is probably lower than coupes, spiders outnumber coupes in the US about 3/1 so there are more in absolute numbers.

Yes but again, these numbers are referring to the UK market which was the strongest (13% rate) for the manual F430's :)

I can assure you that in France there shouldn't be more than 20 manual F430 Coupe & Spider ;)

Thanks for the clarification and the UK numbers, these are very interesting. I am always surprised to see how many more 458 Speciales than Scuds, almost double! I guess this is to be expected with Ferrari increasing overall production being an independent company now, and I am guessing the numbers will only be higher for the special 488 variants.

Just curious, do you have the UK actual numbers for the regular 458 and 458 spider? I am curious how the 458 production compared overall to the 430.

Dude, people buy the cars that they want, its their money. No different to someone only wanting a RED car with tan interior. Others only want LOW MILEAGE in a 15 year old car even though it meant that the car was driven 1K mi per year and sat looking pretty all the time. Different strokes ...... just saying!

Thanks for the pictures! I like your garage space. That 100 miles must have been fun. When do you think you will be able to go for a nice long drive again?

It's going to be awhile, mother nature has other plans for us this year it seems. It was a blast driving it. Lots of looks as there are only a few Ferrari's in Spokane, and very few of the owners drive them, so people really get into it when they see me or my friends driving around.

I'm hoping in March everything will be melted. I need to drive to California for my son's frat father son weekend at the end of March, really looking forward to that, it's a 1200 mile run, but it's the last one as he graduates this year, and really want's me to bring one of the Ferrari's.

I wasn't going to bring it home that night when I got it back in November, but then decided to bring her home. I didn't have the garage all pretty for the pictures. Oh well.

I have track lights and stuff that shine on the cars when they are at home. I only have a 2 car and my wife's car is in the other space. So they stay out at my friends house during the year. I'm trying to get her to let me make it a 4 car garage, but no luck yet.

Will try again this year as I really need 4 car, we have 6 at our house now and so no room at all.

My wife's group is 2 Jags and a Lexus, my sons group is a 335xi BMW and a 1976 BMW 2002, and mine are my F150 and the 3 Ferrari's. The 308 isn't driving yet as still under restoration, will be done by June I hope.

The semi next to me decided he wanted my lane, so his front right bumper caught my left rear wheel and some of the sheet metal behind the gas fill. 1/2 second later and he would have slipped in behind me. If I'd been a second slower, I would have easily seen him coming and dodged him with no effort. If he'd looked to his right 5 seconds earlier he would have seen me next to him on the on ramp. I sure as heck saw him.

2009 silverstone bordeaux F430 coupe MANUAL excellent 15,000 miles. Oh Lordy. One of the wizards at FChat who attempts to maintain a database sez it's one of six 09 MT coupes in the US. He concedes that he doesn't know of every car......he's trying though. Regardless, it is uncommon.

It'll get repaired, and I'm keeping it, but I need to start the diminished value process. Any suggestions? Know anyone good at this in the SF Bay Area?

    tnx unkie

    ouch. Sorry to hear.

You're likely to get more responses by breaking this out into a separate thread, but I would start with Lance Cohen, he specializes in Ferrari appraisal and is quite knowledgeable about diminished value claims.

Though off topic, there is an important cautionary lesson here. Forty+ years ago, I drove 18 wheelers for a while. More than once, I almost took out a 4 wheeler that was cruising alongside. This is especially true if you are alongside the cab. From the description of this accident, I'm 99% sure the driver could not see the 430 at all. The lesson here is to avoid (especially in a sports car) being on the right hand side of any truck. If you are in traffic and decide you want to pass a truck on the right, make sure you have space enough to get beyond it before attempting to pass.

    Tnx!

ABSOLUTELY. I as do many others always assume that the semi driver can't see me, so I spend as little as possible next to such vehicles. I was passing the truck, just having entered the freeway in my own dedicated lane, and watching the gap between his front tire and the lane divider line. I saw absolutely no indication he was moving into my lane. He moved just after my head passed his front bumper but before my left rear wheel had cleared his bumper.

Yes, when you can no longer see the truck, you are no longer in a position to evade. A 4' long space exists where those conditions occur unless you keep watching the truck until your car clears the truck. My advice to myself is now to watch the truck until I am absolute clear of him.
