My oil temperature is suddenly jumping from 110 to 170 and again from 170 to 110 in 10-15 seconds under normal weather conditions . the red light comes on for a second and then the temp goes down in my 360 Modena has anyone had this problem before if so what did you do to fix the problem. I Changed my Oil to thicker oil and even changed my oil temp sensor with another factory sensor and still no change. I've heard that maybe I should try a Bosch sensor but I cant find the right part number. I did order Bosch part number 0 281 002 170 but the connections were not right .

My car is a Euro car

Sounds like it might be a broken gauge in the instrument cluster. Those don't usually break. They're a little more tricky to replace than the sensor.

If you are talking oil pressure, it's the sender. Common problem.... had it on my '99.

I replaced the sensor or sending unit with a Veglia but I still have the same problem .

Zanny1 did you use a Bosch do you remember what brand you used when you replaced your sending unit.

I heard that I should use Bosch but when I received the Bosch sending unit it had different connections and was bigger than the Veglia

Isn't there a screen that needs to be cleaned on another port? If it's junked up could that cause pressure spikes?

I had that exact same temp problem when my oil had been overfilled. There is another thread on this topic.

I have had this problem on my car. It seems to have stopped though, not sure why.

The OP is reporting an oil TEMPERATURE issue/fluctuation, NOT pressure, and numbers without unit may be Celsius and not Fahrenheit (euro model)...

In my case, it was one of those ECU/box thingies which had a cracked plug on it. The box itself is about 2 inches wide, 1 inch deep and 4 inches long.

Dealer replaced it and have not had issues since. It's been mentioned in some other discussions here in the past so I felt more or less comfortable driving the 50 miles to get it replaced at the dealer since it was so sporadic, sometimes happening a minute or two after starting the car (too quick for the temperature to go so high).

Do you have any more detail on the part that was replaced? Part number or description from your invoice perhaps?

My 430 has the same issue as described in the original post. Cruising at highway speeds (~70mph) oil temp will suddenly jump from 90C to 170C and red light will come on. 10-15 secs later is will drop back to 90C in 1-2 secs. Obviously impossible temperature to change so suddenly, so it must be an electrical issue.
Has anyone fixed a similar issue before? Thought I should ask before changing the sensor etc. Thanks

I'd start with the sensor then work to the cluster if it ever happens to me. Also check the grounds on that side of the engine.
