Last week a few guys told me about a new Maserati MC12. From the technical side based on LaFerrari but they will produce it by Maserati, not at Ferrari factory. Does anybody know a little more about this?
I posted a link & photos in the car design thread. Maserati should get its own hypercar, based on the LaFerrari I can't image why they need/want to do this now? Maserati has plenty of exposure what they need to do is execute their basic plan. Where is the Alfieri? That would sell well I think. If they can't launch the Levante well and sell a lot of them they are in big trouble. They need to focus on those two and keeping the QP & Ghibli competitive. This would sell not nearly as many and they can't sustain the company on those sales. But it's nice looking and would go like hell.
A smarter move would be to copy what Jaguar and others have done. Build a run of 100 300S "continuation" cars at 2 mil a copy. 200 million in coffers, then do a 450S at 3 mil. etc.
I talked to a very experienced official F mechanic and he says LaFerrari is completely unreliable. The problem is the battery packs. People don't drive them and don't charge them all the time or properly.
I can totally see this. Paranoia over the miles adding up (much less paranoia over driving something worth $4mm on public roads) leads to Laferrari garage queens. The tech is so new that it's untested sitting for months at a time. Owners are use to the mechanical nature of the old Ferraris and take care of Laferrari accordingly. Leads to unreliability. People seem to drive to 918 far more and the car has had a lot of compaigns (aka recalls) but at least the collective miles are enough to pinpoint and address issues. Not sure if Laferraris are collectively driven enough.
Thats a gorgeous design. Takes maserati design cues and integrates them perfectly into supercar/laf platform. Hard to believe this is same company that gave us new qp, ghibli, suv
It looks beautiful for sure, but not uniquely "Maserati" in my opinion. The only precedents it has is the Bora and MC12.. this doesn't look to be picking up Maserati design cues from them. At a glance it says 'reskinned Ferrari 488' with the intakes moved around. ... https://goo.gl/images/noa5v3 As for specific cues, look at the 3/4 window and roof line - the kink and pull down sweep, plus the seam at the window & door ... and even the contrasting rocker panel... looks lifted from the iconic Ferrari 512BB... https://goo.gl/images/n8wwN0 If Maserati wants a Halo, I'd bring the Alfieri or Bora Concept to the market.. (cues? The Bora concept even picked the extractor strakes of the MC12..) https://goo.gl/images/cFVYuX ...Just my opinion, don't let it bother anyone.. Cheers, - Art
So whose fault is it then...is the car unreliable or the people not taking proper care? Ferrari insists on charging it if it remains unused for 3 days.
That one's OK too Art but really I think they should just make the Alfieri and not at stratospheric pricing as with a halo car. That's just not who Maserati is anymore. They haven't been since the late 1970s really. Also they should not build anything with bleeding edge technology like the La Ferrari. Solid technology with quality execution for several years like they're doing now since they finally ejected the cambiocorsa is the right way for them.
Alferi is not supposed to be halo car but a down sized jag f type or even boxster competitor. Much more for sales volume along with the suv
