Not received title from dealership after 3 weeks

I bought a 2006 f430 spider from a dealer over 3 weeks ago now and I have still not received the title of the car from them because they are saying the bank (who has the title) still has not sent it to them. I can't register my damn car. What am I meant to do? I'm here in FL. It's been disgraceful service.

 

I'm amazed at how things work differently in different states. If you give them the payment in full, they give you the title. They don't have the title? No money.

 

They never said "oh by the way you won't be able to register your car for a month because we don't have title." It is assumed that when you buy a car you can register it shortly after just like I did a few weeks prior when we bought a Hyundai Santa Fe from a dealer.

 

Ive waited a lot longer than that. I think Ive waited close to 3 months

 

The fastest I have ever seen is a bit more than 3 weeks, the slowest is 8 weeks.

 

So what do you guys do for registration in the meantime?

 

Just keep all docs in the car in case you are pulled over. they may still give you a fix it ticket which is a hassle.

 

I suggest that you ask the dealer to provide you with a dealer plate in the meantime.

 

Contact the local governing agency. In Illinois it is Secretary of State.
Had this issue once myself, a visit from the S.O.S. police convinced them it was in their best interest to get me the title ASAP.

If it makes you feel any better (which it probably won't), I've waited at least six weeks on two separate occasions for a title on a car I bought, and a third time when I paid off a car I owned FROM MY OWN BANK.

You should be able to ask for a dealer plate or ask for one of those temporary paper plates you stick in the window.

 

I bought my Ferrari from a Ferrari dealer in Florida and they were horrible too. It took me 2 months to get the title!!!
Additionally, they promised to take care of stuff that the car needed and delivered the car to me with NONE of the promised stuff done.

 

I don't get it. I bought a car from FoFL and the title came with it. I don't understand how they can sell you a car you can't register.

 

Again this where state laws vary. In Massachusetts you couldn't register a car without insurance. I guess technically you could insure the car and never take the registration form to the DMV, but then I don't know if the insurance company would honor the policy if you had an accident or theft claim.

Also, those temporary paper plates issued by some states are not legal here. Every once in a while I see cars with them. I don't know if the drivers realize that the police can impound the car.

 

I would contact the local dealers licensing office which is normally part of the Secretary of States office. You can do a web search to get the phone number for the office in your area or call the local DMV office for the contact information. My suspicion is the dealer either didn't actually own the car and they are waiting on the real owner to forward the title to them OR they are using your money interest free for as long as they can get away with it.

 

I have waited 2 months for a title in the past, it turned out they had not even received it from the auction house yet when they sold the car to me and kept telling me that "it was in transit" I Asked the office girl upstairs and she spilled the truth. Dont worry about it, borrow one of their many dealer tags as suggested by (energy88) and then drive like a jerk.

 

I bought mine from a consignment house in Boston and had to wait nearly a month for them to get the title from the previous owner. They then got the plates for me. (I already had the insurance.)
It was a bit frustrating, as I bought the car in late November, and couldn't pick it up until it was my Xmas present to myself.

It took a few weeks before I got the title for the EVO X, even though it was new from the factory. (The dealer had to get a title from MD. Then I had to turn it in to get a VA title.)

Tags were easier, as I just transferred the tags from my EVO VIII.
(Based on the purchase paperwork.)

(Come to think of it, I picked up the EVO X just after Xmas, too.)

On top of it I've had that many issues with the car. A/c doesn't work...the car falls out of gear AT SPEED into N, and the rear diffuser is not bolted in. The issues with this car are hilariously bad.

 

Three weeks is nothing to worry about

 

Did you have a PPI done? To me it sounds like you might not have...

 

They convinced me not to waste my money on a PPI and not to get a one year warranty on the car for $5500 because they said the car was just serviced and passed the stringent tests to be a certified pre owned Ferrari..

Lesson learned, trust nobody...even a Ferrari dealership.

 

I would have a look at the Attorney General Dept of Consumer Protection website for whatever state you bought the car and also which state you live in and see if theres anything they can do to help you. You never know. In general, used car sales are AS IS. But they are dealership and might be held to a different standard (I don't know). Worth the effort to find out. Hope it works out.

the above seems very good advice but also the Manager of the store you bought from may be very happy to address any concerns you have. Ferrari buyers are important to them.

 

That's absolutely bizarre. For the dealer the warranty is often the most profitable part of a sale! Why would he not upsell an insurance policy for $1500 in profit?

Last time I bought from a dealership and refused the warranty, the finance manager was losing his mind, red faced and basically shouting at me that I was insane.

 

Was it registered as a Florida car by previous owner when you bought it?

I'm assuming Dealers in FL don't issue temporary tags?
