    Hi Guys,

I am a noob here. I am trying to see if I can buy a 458 speciale. Few questions.

    1. I think 458 is a really great car and since its last of N/A V8 ferrari, it's value may appreciate in the future. Would buying a 458 speciale make a good financial sense?

    2. How many of these were actually made?

    3. If I can get a hand on 3000 mile piece for $330k. Should I snatch it?

    Thanks guys!!

Its very baddddddd investment, values will tank in weeks to come.

In the meantime, Can you give the number to the guy selling it for $330k, Ill write a check right now. No seriously, I will :)

All kidding aside. I have a Scuderia now, 488 spider arrives in 4 months, and I would still buy that Speciale for that price. You can not loose on that deal, and its a freaking amazing car. Do yourself a favor, sell the kids and buy that damn car. If you don't, PM the number so I can, lets not let that deal go to waste :)

Speciale is the best car I've ever owned or driven. There are many threads on why that is so you can easily research what is great about the car. I'm not from the US but $330k sounds extremely cheap. UK cars were about £250k optioned up, went as high as £400k after production closed and are now around £350k on official dealers' used car lots. It's a different market but gives you an idea of the kind of percentage price movement over here. There are becoming more available now as the 488 gets into its stride so I suspect there are 'deals' to be had, but that is likely to be temporary because supply will dry up again once that phase has passed since many owners are not sellers.

Production is impossible to confirm but a good guess would be similar to Scud, in the region of 3,000. But, demand seems likely to stay higher for the Speciale and supply may not be as forthcoming because of the number of people who seem to be committed to keeping their car (I have two other friends with them, all three of us have already moved on to other cars but are keeping our Speciales - so, three from three).

If you can't get a speciale for $330k with 3,000 miles but it NOW. even if you don't like it you can easily sell it for what you paid for it in a few years.

In U.K. there are "tens" always for sale very little moving now, mainly speculative on SOR. All I mean is although the car is a keeper there will soon be a new big thing.

There will always be "a new big thing" coming, but it probably won't be naturally aspirated which IMHO is a big deal to a lot of Ferrari enthusiasts.

As for future supply of Speciales, I'm keeping mine so that's one less that won't ever be on the market :)

BUY the car. As the name says, it is a very special car. I have one and I will never ever sell it.
If you are looking to keep the car for a longer time and are worried about the value of the car, then chose the classic color spec (roso, NART stripe, black/red interior) as seen at introduction on the Geneva Motoshow or the official Ferrari promo videos and booklets. I strongly believe they will hold their value best.

Go for it,,I came on here early last month as a newbie and asked the same questions,,,Id ordered a 488 spider but just couldn't wait the remaining 18 months of a 2 year wait so after the Ferrari chat discussions and advice I went for the Speciale,,,What a car, incredible, I had a 4 month old R8, new shape this year,,,that was a incredible but changed for the Speciale and probably one of the best decisions I have made,,,with Chat members help of course,,, All I can say is take the plunge and enjoy every minute of it,,,,,regrets on the Spider? no, not at all, I just cannot see anything better than this car,,,

Its not about buying its about WHEN to buy, no rush at all, we are not talking Aperta or RS4.0 this is not a rare care. Take your time the market is heading your way, the world is a mess as is the outlook for personal transportation - nobody knows where this will end (but there will be disruption) but what is clear is that meddling eco left leaning politicians will not let you buzz around automated cars making a nuisance of yourself.

They HATE your personal freedoms. Take your time, now we are at the top.

Big subject there, self driving cars. I don't believe they will stop people driving older cars, any more than the advent of the car as we know it outlawed horses or bicycles using the road 100 years ago. In the end, beautiful cars such as the Speciale will be revered more IMO because they will not pose anything like the kind of perceived threat to the environment that some would have you believe they do today. The lobbyists will be on to something else. Incidentally, did you know what one of the main complaints levelled at horse travel was, in comparison to the car? "Use the motor car, and get all these foul, dirty, polluting horses off the road!"

Its not using I am concerned about its breaking speed limits etc which we all do, the self drivers will be CALIBRATED for other vehicles at or below speed limits. Their GPS and spatial awareness will be compromised by irregular activity so it won't be allowed.

Until Ferrari puts forward an official announcement (may take a while), your guess is as good as mine but overall I'd risk saying 20.000 units of the 458 across all variants, with the Speciale representing 10-15% of that overall number.

488 may be a different ball game. The world (the economy and car industry) has changed a lot since 2009 (458's official presentation), and new Ferrari CEO Sergio Marchionne has never made it a secret that he wanted to up production numbers from 7.000/year to 9-10.000/year (an increase of 30-40%). Also, it's my belief that if/when a 488 Speciale/Challenge/Stradale/GTO (or any other name for an upgraded 488) is presented, it'll sell quite well for it'll be a very, very fast and striking car.

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

one thing is certain, when prices start to drop, and they always do save the enzo, la ferrari, they drop rather quickly. key next trigger is the launch of the speciale version of the 488....
