Autobild.de is reporting that Brawn will succeed Bernie

Yep hearing this one as well!

 

I don't get that.

How someone with a technical background is supposed to take over what is essentially a commercial organisation. It's a mountain to climb.

No offense to Ross Brawn ...

 

Guy who left Mercedes because he didn't like dishonest people will take over from Bernie? Is "november fools" now a thing?

 

Brawn would be a great asset in that job

 

Somehow I feel Toto and Niki are not over the moon about this..

Btw anyone heard reports Mercedes is developing passive 4ws based on strong magnets for next season? Rosberg's famous cornering pic during Austin's free practice seems suspicious

 

If we should have faith in anyone in the F1 circle is Ross Brawn.

Actually Brawn's technical background should be an asset to fixing the regulations and the sport if we can still call it that way.

 

The teams determine the tech regulations. The current engine formula is completely the choice of the teams.

 

It's the choice of some teams, not all, some had to just go along with the stupid little lawn mower engines as supposedly otherwise certain teams would pick up their ball and go home (Mercedes and Renault)

 

Let´s see similarities between Brawn and Ecclestone:

Succesful ex-team manager--> Yes.
Knows lots of tricks and cheats--> Yes
Knows how to earn money--> Ummm... well, no, Brawn actually only knows how to spend it.

There are much worse options around there, that´s for sure but I think that he´d would be better at writing and enforcing the rules than at running the business. Charlie Whiting replacement?

 

We could have much worse than Ross Brawn......at least you know what you are getting. He's been a great steward of the sport. Also has been pretty quiet in his absence, that I respect.

 

F1 needs Ross Brawn in some capacity. I'd also have thought that he'd be better suited to replace Todt. Hopefully he puts an end to the garagistas being screwed to the brink of extinction.

 

F1 needs stabilization. Ross can probably bring that to the table. I hope the first thing he does is remove all the power from the manufactures and focus on the privateers instead.

 

He did pretty well on the Brawn purchase and sell.

I´d say that the guys at Honda got it terribly wrong while Brawn had a very lucky strike and some help from his friends at FIA with the double deck diffuser. Remember that his team didn´t win again until Mercedes started to dump serious cash in it and exerted some political pressure. In F1, no money, no honey.

Not a bad deal anyway for Brawn, despite being unceremoniously "erased" by Mercedes he must be very grateful to them.

 

True, but that was primarily due to pure, cosmic luck than financial wizardry on Brawn's part. It is the prime example of being in exactly the right spot at exactly the right time.

He'll be good for the sport, though. His amount of success comes with being very good at a lot of things.

 

He has about 100,000,000 reasons for being cautiously grateful to them.

 

+1 all good points. Having Ross onboard is a net positive for F1. He seems to be respected by all and is not prone to hyperbole.

 

Brawn is the only person I could see as taking over post Bernie. Great move.

 

Brown would be a great asset to the sport. We don't need another guy behind the desk. Brown has lots of experience on the grid so he understands the sport better.

Ross would bring some calm and grown-up logic to proceedings

 

According to AUTOCAR, Ross Brawn is only interested in taking over the technical side of F1, NOT the commercial side.

I think that means he wants to be involved in deciding the next technical regulations of the formula.

For an engineer, that make sense.

Let's see how the constructors and teams will react to that, with each one proposing different solutions.



The next question is who will succeed Bernie to look after the commercial side?

Someone from Liberty?

 

In my opinion Brawn's management skills are near equal to his tech skills. I have no doubt he'd be well suited.....even though I wish he'd return to the Scuderia.
