Ignoring the risks, the FIA has bowed down to the fans who only want to see "action" regardless, and to the TV channels that don't want the race delayed.

 

They've managed before in the past so why not now?

There are cases when it is too extreme and those cases are pretty damn obvious. Silverstone was a ****ing farce.

The guy quotes Japan 2014 in his article, but that was near the end of the race, not the start. Regardless of that fact, we had guys on inters driving around, and radio discussions of just keeping them on. Come on. What happened to Bianchi was terrible, but he drove too fast for the conditions. He took a risk and paid the ultimate price.

 

Of course they should have standing starts. Good Lord! What has racing come to? Run-offs bigger than the track themselves... limited defending of positions... all this nonsense. Let these millionaires race! If they think it's too dangerous... they can pull a Lauda and park the car.

 

They are said to be the best drivers in the world... if so, they should be able to manage starts in the rain.

Ham shouldn't have any problems. His current starts will be perfect on a wet track.

As for this, I know it's your dream that everything gets neutered to the point of being unwatchable, but F1 has been racing in the rain for ages. Besides for that, when was the last time you saw a standing start when it was really wet?

Charlie the Clown has 'em run around behind the safety car until they need to pit for inters before it goes green these days. Max seems all for the change, and he drives the cars. Hamilton and others were complaining that the track was fine in Silverstone this year.

Tis true. I've never seen a supposed car guy hate the car and racing so much.

I speculated previously that it would be undriveable/too dangerous due to spray.

 

There have been races cancelled, stopped or postponed in the States because of rain; are you denying that?

Guess what; it's for the same reasons that standing start in the rain is considered dangerous too.

Charlie Whitting got crucified by some people for the start at the British GP. He chose caution and opted for a rolling start and several laps behind the pace car to dissipate the standing water.
I think he was right.
Several cars eliminated because of a huge pile-up because of poor visibility and aquaplaning was the alternative. Silverstone can a very treacherous track when it rain

 

So dry only then. No wet racing.

They have issues with crashes in the dry routinely. Racing is dangerous.

 

I would say he tried to have them cruise behind the safety car in an effort to dry every inch f the track. At least that is what it looked like, when the safety car was still out there, despite missing tea time twice.

I like having drivers race under treacherous conditions. This would make it a race where reading conditions and calculating risks properly counts. Not a bad thought to me.

 

Water does not cause aquaplaning. The driver does. Racing is about driver skill.
