Guys, read the first post, NO EXTENDERS. Doesn't mean that there isn't a bad wire though. What are Hemi wires anyway?

Hemi wires are spark plug wires designed for the Chrysler Hemi from Taylor Wires. All I had to do was cut down the hard sleeve a bit to and modify the plug well covers a little. Not my car but similar pics in this post:

I can't find the specs on these wires, are they stainless steel wound wires? From the pics you might try sliding the covers out of the way and directly connecting the plug boots to the plugs.

Also finding one plug that was clean and smelled of fuel means likely no spark to that one plug quick check is to swap wires and see if the problem moves.

I had the solid core version when I was running points but changed to the spiral core version when I switched to the Pertronix. I checked all the wires and the ohm'ed out good. New plugs may go in tonight or tomorrow.

Having good resistance does not limit them cross arcing to the wall. Just for giggles, toss a few drops of fuel down each spark plug well and fire her up to see what happens... ;-)

Have you checked what your alternator is giving out in volts check through the rpm range I had similar problems and found out the rectifier was producing arout 18 volts and this killed the ignition I run Pertronix. Once fitted a new rectifier problems solved though had also had to replace the petronix

    Gav,

Good questions. I have not checked the whole range, but the other day I check it and was getting 13.7 to 14.1 at idle.

Tomorrow is off so early start in the garage.

Well, swapping caps, resetting idle mixture, and new plugs solved the problems. #5 was running rich and the mixture screw had backed out a little. Took it for a run this afternoon and revved to 7k with no problems.
