What are the typical causes of fires on these cars? Fuel leak?

The car in question had been fitted with twin turbos so it was far from standard. Perhaps the modifications had something to do with the fire.?

Most likely a fuel leak dripping onto hot exhaust manifolds. Could be the pump, lines or rollover valves. Most often there are warning signs of fuel smell that can go ignored. Don't! Spontaneous leaks are rare, although fuel lines should be checked for integrity with annual service.

BINGO! Likely one of the above. Maybe an oil line rupturing. They're not supposed to smell like gas..

Could have been an oil leak, too, although the flash point of engine oil is significantly higher than petrol.

Maybe Andrew P. Collins should find a new job . It is not his car and he shouldn't worry about what this owner did to his car . IMHO , he should worry about his own cars and not comment on this guys wheels and plates . Maybe one day he might be in the same situation and I will be right next to him giving him all the negative comments about his mods .

    rant over !

Hopefully it was fully insured and I'm glad he wasn't hurt. Although I wouldn't have been upset hearing that the thieves caught on fire and burnt to death

Not Fully Comp Insurance - i can probably understand that.

When insuring my 360, it seems the insurance companies were well aware of the tendency for them to BBQ themselves and/or wrap themselves around a lap-post. So 3rd party & theft was all they would offer.

We don't have much of a choice when it comes to insurance options on exotics here in Ozz
And with that sexy F having twin turbos I would say third party would the best he could get

    Awful :(
I'm surprised to hear some folk don't/can't have fully comp. I could not afford to lose that much of my investment if it happened to set on fire or even an accident that was my fault :O.

Even the old hack is fully comp and the Alfa Spider for that matter and those are both relatively cheap cars.

There are lots of options for insuring cars like ours in Australia. The issue is more that people don't want to pay the premiums.

RACV would usually offer insurance for anything, but at an arm and a leg price

My main concern wouldn't be the car, but the car in the garage...anyone tried that Blazecut automatic fire suppression system?
