Do we actually know ANY details of the case? Not that there would ever be any excuse for committing the crime, of course.

BUT....we're reading something written by a friend of the parents of the victim with an agenda....and again, not that I'm condoning anything in the slightest.

He was convicted, that is enough for me to know he should not be out of jail.

I am surprised he survived the short stint in jail.
That insight comes from a work colleague who disappeared from work one day. He was arrested for aggravated child assault. His team leader stayed in touch with him and what happened to him in custody I can't repeat here, he was acquitted on lack of DNA evidence.
    His life totally f..d.
We don't know the inside story of this , but his life now f..d

Signed. If it has any impact it's more likely to influence later cases rather than this one, unfortunately.

The system is in favour of the perpetrator. I have been an expert medical witness for a few cases of child abuse and the person charged is always guilty. Unfortunately many cases become protracted sometimes over years and due inadequacies in the law some aren't convicted but they're still "guilty"

Disgusted and appalled by this, to say the least.

But I really hate online petitions. It's a shame that the worthwhile ones (like this) get mixed up with the idiotic ones.

Surely there's another way to send a message.

He was convicted and the judge noted he showed no remorse; it's really puzzling how he can be released early?

Flynn was charged in the 1990's, only got off because of the statue of limitations had expired. That loophole doesn't exist anymore.

    Sat, May 4, 1996, 01:00

ONE of the many bizarre features of the story behind Tasmania's mass killer is his connection with the beneficiaries of Australia's lottery company, Tattersalls.
Bryant's late benefactor, Mrs Helen Harvey, was one of the heirs to the fortune generated by Tatts, as it is familiarly known. Two other heirs of the same fortune were also in the news in Australia this week.
One a leading academic, has been charged with a paedophile offence going back over a decade.
His brother, a popular Catholic priest, has gone missing off the coast of Tasmania, where Martin Bryant performed his deeds, was a direct descendant of David Hastie Harvey, a close associate of George Adams, who founded Tattersalls in 1861.
Tattersalls now runs lotteries and numbers games throughout the country. The profits this year from its Victorian gaming division alone are forecast to be around $420 million (£221 million).
George Adams's great niece, Jean Merle Flynn, who died in 1978, had three sons who were also Tattersalls beneficiaries, with an annuity each of around $200,000 a year. The eldest, John, now 59, is an academic with passions for both medieval Indian history and coins.
However, these twin loves got him into trouble in India in 1994, when he was arrested in New Delhi and accused of taking 7,000 Indian coins illegally out of the country. He was held in jail for 21 months, and only returned to Australia last month.
But almost instantly charges were laid by a Fijian man, Roger Paramasivam (30), seeking damages for a sexual relationship with Dr Flynn which, he says, began when he was 11 years old.
By that time the Tattersalls heirs had another blow to absorb: John Flynn's younger brother, Father Jeremy Flynn, had gone missing on a private plane trip to Flinders Island, off the coast of Tasmania, where he had a seven hectare property. He has now been confirmed dead

Wide search fails to find missing Flying Priest : By ANDREW BYRNE
A Sydney Catholic priest who is an heir to the Tattersalls gambling fortune is missing, feared dead, after the light aircraft he was piloting disappeared over Flinders Island. Father Jeremy Flynn, of St Joseph's Church, Newtown, and his companion, Mr Bryan Millis, 63, a former Qantas captain, were nearing the end of a four-hour flight from Bankstown Airport to Flinders Island when their twin-engined Beechcraft Baron 55 vanished shortly before landing. ' Father Flynn, 54, is the brother of Dr John Flynn, the millionaire scholar and collector who spent almost two years in an Indian jail until his release last month on charges of coin smuggling, which were eventually dismissed.

The plane disappeared on the day the Sun-Herald published details of how Father Flynn had sued his brother 13 years ago in the NSW Supreme Court over part of their inheritance and had given evidence claiming he caught his brother committing a homosexual act with a student.
Together with Dr Flynn and another brother, Christopher, who lives in England, Father Flynn is heir to the George Adams Tattslotto fortune. Each receives about $200,000 a year from the estate of their mother, Jean Merle Flynn. She was the daughter of William Adams whose uncle, George Adams, founded the Tattersalls' Sweep in 1881. Dubbed "the flying priest" two years ago when he flew to Lake Cowal in the NSW Central West to rescue injured and dying native waterfowl from duck shooters, Father Flynn has been a qualified pilot for more than 30 years.
Mr Millis is a former RAAF pilot who served in Squadron 76 and 77 and retired from Qantas in 1990 after 17 years as a captain on 747 jets. Both belonged to the Historical Aircraft Society. A wide search involving eight planes, three helicopters and teams of four-wheel-drive vehicles did not find any sign of the missing aircraft yesterday. Father Flynn failed to make a planned call to air traffic controllers at 8.45 pm on Sunday and did not arrive on Flinders Island as scheduled at 9.03 pm. A source said the priest, who was going to his island holiday house, carried out pre-Ianding "instrument let-down" checks and did not issue a mayday call. A couple driving home reported seeing an explosion light up the sky behind 319-metre Mount Killiecrankie about the time the plane disappeared. Last night, Dr Flynn was said to be in "deep distress and shock".
Although he and his brother fell out when Father Flvnn brought the court action in" the early 1980s, Dr Flynn's solicitor, Mr Timothy Eakin, said they had since patched up their relationship. "This has been a terrible double shock for John. First there was this scurrilous newspaper article, and then the next morning he learns that something terrible could have happened to his brother. "Dr Flynn intends today to commence proceedings against the newspaper for defamation, and we have already held discussions with counsel." A Catholic Church spokeswoman said: "At this stage we are just praying for Father Flynn's discovery." The search for the missing plane will resume this morning.
