Jeniffer... :)
The Corsa is the equivalent of the Michelin Supersport. The Cup 2 is the equivalent of the Tropheo R. The Tropheo R of course is the much faster tyre of the lot!
TrofeoR are the fastest simpliy cause are RACE tires! street legal "just to go from a track to another one" (according with pirelli website) ferrari don't want use them because "sometimes rain in the real world"
Nope, not based on same day tests. I'd also like the semi-slick area on Corsa Systems to be pointed out. Cup 2 > 1.2s/minute > Cup+ http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/Michelin-Pilot-Sport-Cup-2-Launched.htm Trofeo > 0.4s/minute > Cup+ http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/2012-Sport-Auto-Track-Day-Tyre-Test.htm So Cup 2 > 0.8s/minute > Trofeo (non-R) Trofeo > Corsa System Trofeo R > 0.9s/minute > Corsa System (Chris Harris Portimao test)
Unfortunately, all those times are slower than those already set on that track. Algarve International Circuit (Portimao) lap times - FastestLaps.com
Not true, all cars were on their road tires. Macca wasn't on Trofeo Rs. Hammond literally said it post the race when Clarkson brought up the Trofeos. The psc2 is the actual tire Porsche comes on and it's perfectly usable for the road. Get out of here with that misleading nonsense.
The Corsa System outperforms it in the wet by a long way. Semi-slick? Definitely. http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/attachments/c7-parts-for-sale-wanted/47957081d1456152629-michelin-pilot-sport-cup-2-tires-complete-set-img_2460.jpg Semi-slick? Nope, fully treaded. http://www.autorno.com/userfiles/products/pirelli-p-zero-corsa-system-left-side-3.png
The 918 comes on one tire from factory, as does the LAF. Both cars were optimized for that specific tire. 918 has the most usable real world traction on roads, real roads. So you can claim whatever you want about the tire but it's a road legal tire purpose built for the car used on roads.....I don't know what more criteria you would want. Cars are even. And if I really wanted to beat a dead horse on the matter I could easily make the claim Ferrari sent a ringer. It wasn't licensed for the road so Ferrari didn't have to "pay the tax"....ok.
Rather than the (now) usual test of LF, 918, P1, I think a great test would be two groups: 1- Modern supercars as listed above; vs: 2- F40 (or F50 or Enzo, but I vote F40) vs Carrera GT vs F1 Which GROUP comes out on top, and why?
With the P1 on track tyres and MclHarris at the wheel? Prefer GT's take with an impartial pro driver who hasn't driven them before and just one straight timed lap per car. 918 wins again but LaF pretty damn close for a collector's garage queen...
The P1 won even on Corsas with Chris Harris. Chris Harris is also the biggest Porsche fan in the world, so I don't know why you would say that. I suggest you watch the Grand Tour and note that the driver drove the P1 into a gravel trap earlier in a way that looked half deliberate and them messed up several corners on the hot lap. Unfortunately, 1 straight timed lap isn't what owning a car is is about. It's about learning how to get the best from it.
Trofeo R is also a road legal tyre. And no, there's no way Corsa System is equal to Cup 2 in a million years. If it was, you could be damn sure Michelin would do a more aggressive tyre to compete with Trofeo Rs.
Firstly, please learn some english. I specifically said that the P1 was on Corsas, same as the LF. Secondly, the Cup2 is a semi slick tyre, the most extreme road legal tyre Michelin offers. The most extreme that Pirelli offers is the Tropheo R. Thridly... screw that, I won't get down to your level.
FastestLaps " Yes it was. And they were standing start laptimes (as depicted in the video and judging by the first end-of-straight speed trap), so that gave 918 extra bonus." standing start??
Why Hasn't Jeremy Clarkson Changed His Name to Jennifer Yet? As stated in the show and in this article, all tires used in the filming of the episode were the same regardless of the car. Thus ends the frivolous trofeo R vs PSSC2 argument.
No, they said they used the same kind, which is hugely subjective. At 1:01.11, you can clearly see the 918 has Michelin Cup 2s on it.
Yes but shorter layout, at 1:02.12, you can see the longer route around Torre VIP is obstructed. The difference in time between the two layouts is ~3s. A 675LT with a flying start and customer driver can lap the shorter track in 1:54.7. Each lap edited down to <60s, no cockpit view, no telemetery.
Right....because three British guys clearly have massive incentive to mislead the audience in the favor of Porsche. The test was fair and the cars are so close it's a wash. As I originally stated, pick your favorite based on personal preference.
Exactly. I'd happily take the LaFerrari every single time, even though it's not the fastest. Something always is faster. LaF makes all the right noises and to me looks the best. 918 is the best put together apparently, certainly the best daily driver...but it leaves me cold. No idea why. 991 GT3 RS, Cayman GT4 all make me tingle inside. P1 is a great car, but doesn't sound as well as the LaFerrari and I prefer the looks of the LaFerrari. In LM guise (or GTR for that matter) it's just insane, all black for me please...but only 5 LM to be build so that rules it out anyway. What I just can't wrap my head round is the constant droning of the fanbois about tires, driver, the temperature not being good for the chassis, the circuit not suiting car X, it rained 40 miles away, it was a wednesday...these cars are all horrendously fast and 98% of the buyers a) can't drive to the limit b) quite simply don't care. The guys arguing day in and out, for nearly 20 thousand (!!!!!) posts is just childish. The Fchat version of ''my dad can beat up your dad''.
You might want to tell that to McLaren's marketing department then who started with all the antagonism, controversies and false claims. Mess with the two prancing horses, ...
I like how on other forums *cough mclarenlife* fail to realize grand tour did standing start for timed lap instead of harris flying start. They're already calling d'Ambrosio bad driver. Just let that sink in for second former F1/GP2 now formula E is bad driver compared to Chris Harris.
