'87 Mondial 3.2, turns over, no ignition spark, won't start when heat soaked, after cool down runs perfect. Has new battery, ignition wires and plugs. Any ideas??? Rod

Can be the flywheel pick up sensors. How long are they sitting in the engine?
Replace them every 8-10 years. they build up resistance due to age and thermal stress.
When cooled down they might work for a while.
Check also the flywheel pick up connectors for corrosion. Also connectors from engine harness to main harness.

Look for pump activity. Does it work if engine is hot? Disconnect the blue connector on the fuel distributor. Ignition on, (immobilizer off). Push down the air metering plate beneath the air filter housing. You should hear a buzzing sound from the pump.
If not, change relais or check electrical connections pump.

take a closer look at the coils. Where cable from distributor goes maybe to much oxidation and bad contact. Also distributor inside has small screws that oxidades and bad contacts. Needs some cleaning.

The rotor in these cars eats through the base and shorts out to the post it rotates on. There will be black at the base of the distributor rotor. Fiat 124 uses the same rotor.

I know this is true for the rotors that push on to the cam post in Mondials up through '85. I have not heard of this happening on the new design cam that got rid of the post and the rotor now bolts on to the cam shaft. Is it a problem with the new rotors as well? The 30 yr. old rotors on my '86 do not show any sign of burning through while the push on rotors off of my neighbor's '85 308 GTS did burn through.
