I have been offered a 348 Challenge but the race kit is missing. Is it difficult to find the vintage race kit : roll bars , Challenge seats and attachments, air ducts for brake cooling , tow hooks for this car? Where would you look to buy them?
Alternatively if a new roll bar and seats were sourced what would be the closest to the original?
Would the car be less authentic if a new race kit was placed?

I think you will find it very difficult to find the full kit. I have not seen a 348 challenge roll cage for sale at all online. You might find parts by talking to the right people that own other 348 challenge cars that have spares.

Seats are also hard to find but come up more often.

But, depending on if the car raced, I'm sure there is some cool history there to celebrate.

Did the car race? If you pm me the serial, I can try to help.

Adding aftermarket (non-OEM) parts might make the car fun to take on track or look more the part if that is your preference. But this will not raise the value of the car if that is your goal. Most Ferrari buyers are looking for complete original cars. So I would keep all the original parts to stay with the car in case of re-sale whatever you do.

The OEM parts can sometimes come up here in the ferrarichat classifieds and on eBay.

I have the choice of a 348 challenge which comes with the original roll bar and seats but has a higher mileage : just under 50k miles or the 348 challenge with regular seats and no race kit and just under 30k miles. Both have a race history but perhaps the no race kit car is slightly better. I was told that the higher mileage car would require an expensive engine rebuild sooner but it is the more original car. I will look for the serial number and pm you.thanks!

There are a LOT of smaller parts that also go into making up the complete Challenge package. Assembling all of them will be almost impossible- and would be very pricey.
If the car lacks them all I seriously doubt that it competed in the Challenge Series. Anything's possible, but . . .

Buy the 348 Challenge with the Challenge kit already installed. You'll have plenty of miles to go before you'll need a rebuild.
