I hope she used the correct jacking point, and didn't damage the DS rear wheel-arch too much :)

Hi Roy, what exhaust is on this car? Any chance it has an ANSA sport exhaust?

To Roy -and anybody else - I would like to find a picture of the center mount on the ANSA sport exhaust and how it looks once the exhaust is mounted in the car...having some trouble with this for the resto I've been doing on the LP400S.

If for some reason you get a chance to have this on a lift in the near future I would highly appreciate a pic of the way the exhaust mounts on this car ;-). It's not an easy thing so no big deal if not possible.

    Thank you!

Check the Downdraft thread, I've posted images of the centralized and ground-parallel positioning of the muffler tubes plus the centralized extrusion of the exhaust tips.

The thing is, sometimes the exhaust unit itself is not properly constructed, and the bends do not have have consistent radii, and the mufflers tubes are not parallel to the ground.

Thanks, I am familiar with the two systems just wasn't sure about how the brackets get positioned...so one of the side brackets plus the spring shock absorber gets moved to the center mount and that constitutes the mounting for the center exhaust, right?

In other words the brackets and spring absorbers are identical regardless of the exhaust type?

I think there are some variables here so it would be helpful if you posted pics to illustrate your questions.

So to answer your previous questions, the brackets and spring absorbers may not be identical regardless of the exhaust type, and, its really up to your restorer to figure this one out. I have seen so many different variations of exhausts constructed for these cars ranging from well-done to terrible, so it all depends on what you have.

Because of this, we had our own system made to our exacting standards, and I can't verify if the mounting points on the Downdraft are the same as those on the LP400S or not.

Sorry I can't be more specific or helpful.

Thanks! That clarifies it...we're starting by trying to move a side bracket and exhaust shock absorber to the center and then check whether it lines up with the ANSA mounting bracket in the center.

If that is the case then this exhaust would be supported by the center only and the connecting pipes to the headers would give it some side-to-side rigidity. I'll have my guy take pictures.

I am pretty sure the Downdraft has spring-absorbed brackets on each side of the unit (not just centrally) to give it the desired rigidity, or else you'll have a system that's moving around and will be difficult to align the exhaust tips centrally through the valance apertures.

Ever wonder why you hardly ever see a Countach exhaust that looks properly aligned?

    It's not easy.

I'll take pics of mine next time I have access.

Above is my understanding as well and applies to 2 valve cars. I am not sure all the 4 valve cars have both mounting configurations. I believe later cars dropped the center mount style. The center mount is used with the sport exhaust and the twin mounts are used with the box muffler. Many of the sport exhaust systems come with brackets that can be welded on so the sport exhaust can be used with the two mount system.

    Cheers Jim

That's what I belive and I recall our Downdraft has twin mounts.

    I will check to verify.
