    Hi everyone,

I am looking at a few 458s and this one caught my eyes as it is spec'd rather different than others. I was wondering if anyone here knows any history or past owners of this car:

What stood out to me was:
1- Calipers are yellow even though build sheet states Red
2- Even with 3,900 miles, the tires that are currently on the car are Michellin Pilot Super Sports but in build sheet it came with Pirelli P Zero tires
3- The Carbon door sill looks different than other 458s with similar CF package

MPSS are usually seen as a good thing so maybe they were changed for age (five year) or puncture or whatever

    Sills look after-market

Maybe owner got the car and realised yellow calipers looked better...

The build sheet will tell what the car is supposed to be, plus it would be important if you ever want it judged in a Concours. Spending what these cars cost you need the full history.

Pricesely. Just not sure on how to go about getting the history other than asking a dealer. Do dealers provide history on cars that are not yet purchased to the potential owner?

I would assume so. Should it not be?

The sill plates are definitely after-market parts. The Ferrari OEM version has the 'Ferrari' emblem. You may want to double check if the CF matches the interior original CF. The color of the brakes is not as important as to the history of why the change occurred - repairs? Original OEM parts? etc. IMHO, these cars should stay as original as possible with OEM parts in order to avoid future doubts on performance, resale, or just be sure that everything is real.

I agree with what you stated ("IMHO, these cars should stay as original as possible with OEM parts in order to avoid future doubts on performance, resale"). That's exactly what my problem is.

I'm wondering if I should pass on this car. Thoughts?

The carbon door sills look to be from Macarbon, they make good stuff.

It's pretty easy to change caliper color. I probably would not buy an out of warranty car from an independent dealer.

The carpets are castoro. Castoro used to have a darker, almost brown hue, but has become yellower in more modern Ferraris. It was the most common carpet choice on 308's, 328's, 348's, 355's, etc. with beige leather for many years. It seems that many 458's and 488's with beige leather now have nero carpets.

If originality is important to you, as you've stated above, then I would suggest you keep looking. At quick glance, the calipers and sills don't match the sticker, as others have pointed out. There are so many 458's to choose from that a little time and patience will most certainly yield the car you're looking for.

Originality is not that important if the parts like calipers end up being oem. I do plan to keep the car for 1-2 years and upgrade after that. Decisions decisions...

I agree, but in this car, the caliper color doesn't match the sticker, and some of the CF parts are after market. The car looks nice, im just suggesting you keep looking if those things are important to you.

If you're only going to keep the car for a short period, and 12-24 months is short, buy it if you like the car. The non-original items could be reversed very easily.

There's nothing worse than having to explain why your Ferrari if full of after market parts and components at the time of resale or trade. It will beg the question of what else, not easily seen, are also after-market parts. Dealers are probably more educated with this kind of situations but certainly not individual buyers, especially first-time Ferrari buyers with more than their fair share of nerve and skepticism on out-of-warranty exotics. If you are going to keep the car for a long time, then it does not matter nearly as much. Of course as others have suggested, you can 'reverse' everything back to OEM but it will costs you handsomely and another bunch of explanations will inevitably follow. e.g., the OEM sill plates alone are $1800 a pair without labor. Few want to buy a $200K used car that is full of 'stories.' Being original matters.

I'm a first time buyer in the market, and I would not consider buying a Ferrari with all these questions.

IMO those door sills look DAMN good and caliper color change isn't a big deal.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy this one but that's just me.

I appreciate quality mods that are done tastefully.

I also am interested in this car and spoke with the dealer last week.

The aftermarket carbon pieces are indeed by Macarbon.

The car has a Capristo exhaust.

    Three owners.

I have to agree. The CF weave does not seem to match either.
