This just makes so many people so much happier. Hopefully Nico will now be more competitive as he has got the monkey off his back. And Mercedes must be very happy as they have really proved their car is dominant as both their drivers have won a WDC. So much better than any WCC IMO. Why Red Bull didn't support Weber equally I'll never understand as I cannot fathom flavouring one driver that much when you already had bagged multiple WDCs. .. Ferrari should have relaxed the team orders too once MS had a couple. Pete
+1 As a Brit, I have to say that I agree with you. Ignore that bellicose individual. Our car industry is owned by German, Japanese and Indian firms. It works fine. A German driver on a German car won the WDC today, and I applaud both.
Although I would like to agree with you I fear that this is much more business than sports nowadays..
An unfortunate truth. However, IMO it still doesn't justify anyone choosing the unsportsmanlike choice.
I am certainly not a Hamilton fan but actually I did not find it that bad as some of you say...OK, Hamilton drove slow but he never actually blocked Rosberg as Nico have chosen not to attack. He could have brought Lewis in a situation where he really would have had to decide whether he wants to play foul or not. But Rosberg have chosen the dangerous way to keep his position and as seen afterwards he did right in doing so. On the other hand today gives Rosbergs WDC more credit as he became WDC although obeying team orders (in Monaco) proving that he is both a WDC and a team player. Same might not be said about Lewis after ignoring (again) team radio. One might discuss whether this team order was necessary but it still was a direct order. But actually Toto and the team lost authority a long time ago letting both Nico and Lewis do a lot of things without setting limits so how could one expect that the drivers would start listening today...
Their factory is in the UK, just the money is German...Not that it matters much. Rosberg was raised in Monaco, which to my mind makes him more Monegasque than anything. Verstappen was born in Belgium but lived & grew up in Limburg, which is in the Netherlands. He now lives in Monaco like most others but that doesn't change their nationality. I was born in Holland and lived there for the first 12 years of my life, after that I've moved to many different countries but never settled anywhere.
Any Brit who curse Germany doesn't know history. The British royal family is mostly German. Queen Victoria was from German descent; she married Prince Albert, a German. The dynasty was mostly of German stock and called Saxe-Coburg Gotha, later changed to Windsor. Princess Elisabeth married a German prince; she is now our Queen and he is Duke of Edinburgh. So, our next king, Charles will again be half German. Beside, Most of Britain has Anglo-Saxon blood, from ... Germany. Most of our ancestors were German (also Danes). Just compare these 2 national anthems, and tell me if you don't hear some resemblance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ppIomb3r_3Q god save the queen lyrics https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwDIHKnVevo Heil dir im Siegerkranz English Subtitle
+1 They have an excellent pair of drivers, and when Kimi retires in 2017 (or later?), they should get a quick #2 in, but not a driver so fast we have another Senna/Prost or Rosberg/Hamilton situation. Perez would be perfect, and I'd love Sainz jr at the team.
I fully disagree regarding Nico trying to get on Lewis to make the move. That would have accomplished nothing today or in the previous few races other than ruin chances for one of them from finishing well. Nico knows by now Lewis would do anything, I mean anything, to bag that title. Nico was very wise to play it safe and not try and pass Lewis not only today, but the last 4 races. Nico knew getting into a scrap with Lewis would end up with at least one of their races ending. Nico was extremely intelligent in staying away from that maniac as he would gladly try and shove Nico in a wall. Lewis' previous antics prove he is far too volatile to even mess with. Nico proved he can beat him, but it's an ugly nasty proposition with no promise that both will even finish.
WRONG. Lewis would gladly stick Nico in a compromising position if he could, and that is a risk he was not about to take with that arrogant maniac. Just finish where he needs to and stay the hell away from the unmedicated lunatic. He smoked Lewis plenty the past year +, but it's an ugly and risky business. No need to take chances when the title is on the bag. Extremely smart when dealing with such an opponent. Come on. Get the humble pie
Nope. He knew what he needed to bag the title and did just that for the remainder of the year. No sense slugging it out with that guy. Nico well proved he can beat him, but I say again, it is nasty business which could and has lead to them not finishing well or at all.
World Champion Nico Rosberg! Great result to the season. Bit of a nail biter in the closing laps though! All the best, Andrew.
I so want to hear Elton retires tomorrow, it would make my year complete. How can he come back after all the bull**** he's spouted about Nico, the team, f1 in general, and think he can save face? In my opinion, the guy has finally shown his truest colours, those of an arrogant bully no mark. Fast, but deeply flawed, and unsuited to a team sport. Mercedes board should be very embarrassed today at his antics, and their overwhelming support of the guy in spite of all the incidents of bull**** over the last few years. Time to go dum dum
