Since when tires need to bespoke? Ok, let me ask you in another way, if doing bespoke tires is so pointless, then why would manufacturers (Mclaren included) spend thousands of hours and money testing tires? Why would the 675LT, which comes with a bespoke "MC1" marking on the Trofeo R by the way, be necessary? Of course, you know so much more than everyone else on this board right? You certainly seem to be know more than the manufacturer themselves! Of course, you are so well connected in the car industry right? Here is a picture of my dinner with Luc and Frank from last year. We had a few too many drinks by then. I can back up my claims. Why don't you start bringing something relevant to the table instead of trolling around and sourcing Internet content. I didn't say doing bespoke tyres was pointless, I said tyres do not need to be bespoke to be OEM. You think a Ford Focus uses bespoke tyres as OEM LOL? Learn to comprehend. So posting pictures of myself drunk will improve my credibility?
Quick question you two: is the record holder 918 basically an SV with RWS? I mean when you factor in that it didn't have the full amount of power from its electric motors.
Watch as speed falls back down to 285kph after battery runs out. 9kph less than Carrera GT in fact. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pV8aNwEBPTQ Porsche Carrera GT im Test: Überflieger pulverisiert Rundenzeiten-Rekorde - AUTO MOTOR UND SPORT
I'm not the one who posted this as criticism. I'm just pointing out strengths and weaknesses in a purely factual and truthful manner. There isn't one thing I've said wrt battery longevity in HL mode that I haven't proved. The 918's amazing magazine lap performance is short-lived, specifically about 2 minutes. Factor in Cup 2 vs Corsa on top of that and no, it ain't that great.
Almost 1000 pages and you're likely the first person to claim this (post the cars release), and this is a FERRARI forum. It's not a Porsche forum. But arguing with you over cars you'll never see anywhere but the internet is pointless. Really it's just your never ending posting and commenting on every other persons (sometimes personal) experience that doesn't fit the narrative you've decide is correct that drives me nuts. Another thing I can't believe is how you literally can provide a link to every youtube video/article/forum post ever made to support your claims. Are you a home schooled 17 year-old with a severe case of OCD and parent who works for Mclaren? You really need to get out into the real world and drive some fast cars in order to see how pointless your posts really are. Plant your foot in a 458. Then remember a 918 can do 0-150 mph almost 7 seconds faster than a 458 (or in ~60% of the time) and tell me "it ain't that great". Only someone with absolutely zero concept of speed or acceleration would make such a claim. You don't get understanding like that from a youtube video.
Honestly, I know I have dog in this fight since i have no cars and get most of my "feel" from forza, GT, & youtube, but even I wouldn't claim...what you said he claimed. Honestly, even a Cayman GT4 is fast to me from those POV videos--let alone the previous gen hypercars, and the upcoming Aston and Merc are about to re-write that very same concept of acceleration again. The funny thing about nearly this entire thread if you go back to look at all of the pages or eve just most of them, you'll see that its mostly all about the 918 being the underdog, the P1 not meeting the hype, and the Laf is just sitting back and sipping on a cappachino as it watches the two. We've barely even spoken about the Laf on this thread, but in most of the tests it seems to be in the middle of the pack, depending on driver and track, and this equally applies to customer and factory cars. Another interesting aspect of this whole thread (and a few on RT), is that the Laf hasn't really been suspected of cheating, like ferrari normally are, except on Mclife.
The record holder is basically, a prototype with far less of the final 918 potential-front e-motor, calibration, aero, etc... Also M. Lieb came from the air plane in the last minute, without having enough time to settle optimum scenario for a best lap. That's why even that prototype was capable of better time, but please don't tell Mycroft, who is under cover here, haha
So with that being said, and the way the SV driver drove, now its all starting to make sense why the SV was able to get a sub-7, but not get anywhere near the current crop of 918's. Thanks.
Better than becoming a Renault 4 with a massive wing which is what the P1 would feel like if the software let it drain the battery completely so to feel the turbo lag. That's why the P1 doesn't have an hot lap mode but just the ipas button good for only a few seconds of full battery power. It couldn't afford a full lap at max power. And speaking about gimmicks what about the drs button which doesn't even put the wing back when hitting the brakes? It almost made Clarkson crash against the other two cars (obviously being behind them on the drag race)
I've thought about this as well. My personal belief on the matter is that Mclaren over-promised and under delivered. Porsche did the opposite, to the point that it genuinely surprised the market (I mean 9.7 second quarter mile times by customers...c'mon). If you look at the real world data, Ferrari actually under delivered as well (nowhere near sub 15 seconds to 300 kph). Ferrari, however, is very good at marketing their machines as more than simply cars. The LAF is the heir apparent to the lineage of hypercars that only come from Ferrari once every 10 years. It makes it more special than just acceleration numbers and therefore immune to this, frankly, useless discussion. Just look at the LAF prices in the used market, it's INSANE! With that said, I think all three cars really pushed the envelope and were masterpieces. I'd be thrilled with any of them. They're are all out of my financial league (though I work hard each day to try and correct that little issue). But I am fortunate to know some owners (not just speak to them on boards) and have been even more fortunate to experience with the cars. They are so much more than some over-analyzed youtube video.
Well that, plus who quotes Goodwood hill climb? And also the Grand Tour Test was left out. And the 'Ring. But I digress, best not to argue with this guy. He has the internet mapped out. what he should be doing is mining for bit coins with his vast internet knowledge instead of arguing about cars he won't ever own.
Nothing to do with the actual results from thermal....but when the hyper car five test driver says it wasn't a serious test like Chris Harris test then you can probably not put it in the "serious test category".
I get it that Lieven is hard to argue with because he has done a ton of research. Keep something in mind... in the laguna p1 vs 918 test the owner of the p1 did supply telemetry evidence. (lieven has mentioned this in the past and it's probably somewhere in this thread). Link in to the motor trend results and they also supplied the VBOX data if someone wants to put it into circuit tools and analyze. I looked at it and it seems they only showed the data from the laps in the sessions which had the best lap time for each respective car. 2015 McLaren P1 vs. 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder Comparison - Motor Trend
I wouldn't say that they under-delivered. R&T clocked the 0-150 mph (0-240 kph) time at 9.8s. Another 5s for the next 60 kph doesn't seem unlikely at the rate that thing accelerates.
