Considering what a big deal the 911R has been this year, when Porsche turbocharges the big engine in the R, rear wheel drive with manual transmission and about 650 hp...THAT will be the GT2 to have.

Yeah, but, you have a better car. Why anyone would thing air cooled is better than water is beyond me.

I agree in terms the 996 being a better car. Night and day between overall finish of the 993 vs. 996 where the 993 was the ultimate German utilitarian statement. While the 993tt was a full $25K over what I paid for the X50, it certainly didn't appear that way sitting in the cockpit and driving it showed how refined the 996 is. However, Porsche diehards command the market and the 993 will probably continue to appreciate by simply being the last air cooled 911.

So, if I had viewed the 993 as an investment, that $25K gap would be more like at $125K gap today.....

I consider it a blessing. If the diehards want to pay more for a crappier car, let em.

Gotta say that the 996tt is one Hell of a fun ride....and the reason I bought it. No regrets..

Can't believe what a great car this is - at any price.

In an effort to buy something newer with a little more room (we have a 3 year-old), I've been looking at lots of 911s. The 991.1s are great cars but feel sluggish until you get the revs up, even the GTSs. Now the 991.2s, even the base Carreras, feel more like the 996TT power-wise. The 991.2 S feels (remarkably) like 991.1 TTs. So for me, it's going to take at least $100K to match the power and feel of the 996TT.

Even when I tried to justify the 991.1 S to my wife she said "You're going to pay more money for less power? That's stupid. Get the 991.2 or a 991.1TT or you're just going to be shopping again soon".

Porsche is bringing a GT2RS only, no GT2.
At this point unknown if PDK or manual, definitely 4WD and definitely OVER 700HP.
MSRP close to $300K (and you'd be lucky to get one at that).

If you don't have a 918, you won't be getting a GT2 RS. Well, not at MSRP.

Getting better, by now more then half of 918 buyers "lost" their status for speculating.
There will be a significant number of allocations in US at the dealers discretion.
