Wow..Rosberg weaker than I thought !
If you're trying to imply that Seb had some inside knowledge of today's announcement then I think that's a case of 2+2=7! I think Seb weighed up going for the win, then took into consideration the situation with the WDC between Lewis and Nico, decided he was happy enough with a podium finish and didn't want to risk an incident with Nico that could have changed the course of the Championship, and so settled in to act as a tail gunner for Nico against Max, just in case. It could well have been to give Germany another World Champion, it might be simply that Seb likes Nico and doesn't like Lewis, but I don't think he was sending a message to Mercedes somehow! As for Nico: He's got a young family for whom all the travelling around must be quite tiring, he's achieved his biggest goal in life, he knows how much effort it took to beat Lewis this year and the strain that it's put on him, he knows that if he takes a pasting from Lewis next year then there'll be even more people claiming (incorrectly) that he's not a worthy World Champion, and he's probably completely fed up with being (undeservedly) booed at various tracks around the World. NICO: WELL DONE, FAIR PLAY, AND ENJOY THE REST OF YOUR LIFE WITH YOUR FAMILY!
An emotional farewell? 'im not prepared to do this any more' etc etc..sorry not very convincing! MB must be pretty furious with Nicole now.
When I won the race in Suzuka, from the moment when the destiny of the title was in my own hands, the big pressure started and I began to think about ending my racing career if I became World Champion. On Sunday morning in Abu Dhabi, I knew that it could be my last race and that feeling cleared my head before the start. I wanted to enjoy every part of the experience, knowing it might be the last time and then the lights went out and I had the most intense 55 laps of my life. I took my decision on Monday evening. After reflecting for a day, the first people I told were Vivian and Georg (Nolte, from Nicos management team), followed by Toto." https://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2016/12/new-f1-world-champion-nico-rosberg-announces-shock-retirement/ Best, Sammy
I htink this has effectively voided every driver contract since we are led to believe many of them contain get-outs to move up the grid
He is a young father now. He achieved his life long goal of the title. He has all the money he needs. 100% understandable. He doesn't have to prove anything any more. I might have done the same. Kai
IMO Alonso should get the seat. F1 fans worldwide will be robbed of seeing Alo Vs Elton pt 2, and see a classic fight for the title with Max and Ricciardo thrown into the mix.
WOW, I thought it might be April 1st when I read this. I could see every driver on the grid other than possibly the Red Bull guys looking to get that seat. PS Toto I will take the seat for half the money and promise to never even try to challenge Elton.
Is this real??? If so, wow! Good for him - he has a family, a World Championship, nothing left to prove other than accumulate (which, as noted, probably wouldn't be pleasurable with Hamilton as a teammate). I thought Nico was incredibly honest and direct after winning. His emotions indicated there was more than met the eye - if this is really true, then I think he must have made his mind up at that point. Good luck and congrats!
Good on them to end their professional relationship on a high note. Lewis had posted the following yesterday (he has no class right?) and Nico consequently informed him before making the announcement. "We said we'd be champions back then, now we both are! Congratulations Nico, you did everything a champion needed to do. Well deserved " http://www.instagram.com/p/BNcjrzqhS0m/ "I informed Lewis myself before this, it is the right way to do it," said Rosberg. "We had so many battles and so many moments so I thought correct to let him know of my decision and especially in light of his post yesterday, which was kind of him. "Maybe we can have a discussion tonight." "It has been so short notice. The priority was to let team know as quickly as possible. A bit of a compromise for me in not taking enough time to notify everyone who was close to me – so I sent Lewis a message." Image Unavailable, Please Login
Would love to see Vettel, DR, or Alonso get that car, but I suspect we will be disappointed at who actually gets it. There are very few drivers frankly that "deserve" a car that good. If Alonso is able to get out of McLaren, it would be a huge blow to that team and Honda.
Exactly ! He was the #2 driver in the best car. Odds of a repeat are next to nill. This also is an indication of his internal drive. Guys like Barrichello and Massa hang on until they were cut loose. I didn't particularly like either but at least they had the internal fire. Nico has this delusion that he can make it in film or somesuch. He thinks being on top is easy because it has been so far. He is about to experience a "Raikkonen" (when he outgrew F1)
Toto should be able to put Ocon in the car and place Werewolf at Force India,or I think Vettel could well jump ship after Arrivaderchi really put him down after Suzuka, even though he has a contract for 2017.
Raikkonen did not out grow F1, he had a contract with Ferrari to not drive in F1, and honored it. As soon as the contract's time expired, he was immediately back on the grid. It was not Kimi's decision, it was Ferrari's.
"Jenson............. You now how you were looking forward to having a chance to have a rest in 2017?......Something's cropped up!"
Strange stuff you are posting. Rosberg is not a youngster. He has worked hard over many years to reach his WDC. He is not like Vettel, Hamilton, Schumacher, arriving at the top at a very young age. He continue with the fire of goating around. He doesn't mind stating that he worked hard to achieve this, comparing himself to Hamilton to whom being fast comes more naturally. What are you on about? I think he will be exceptionally happy doing whatever comes next. And I utterly doubt he will ever come back to F1.
Smart move from a very smart man. Why hang out like FA and face the grind and burnout chasing that one more elusive title. A complete career is completed. All the best to him. That takes strength, which he clearly has. Good for him and for his family.
+1 To be fair to Kimi, I think Ferrari stipulated that he had to be out of F1 for a period when they bought out the last year of his contract to bring in Alonso.
So, next announcement, Paddy Lowe to Ferrari coming next week? Is there a chink in the armor at the Silver Arrows?
I think some people only know the driver's that are in Ferrari, or who ever else won the WCC. That means that all the years Nico put in with his team are unknown to him.
His dream was to win the F1 World Championship, not several Championships! - Job Done! He's achieved his goal and now he has other priorities in life - Like spending time with his young family rather than hardly ever seeing them! He's just beaten every driver on the grid to the WDC - You don't do that if you can't be arsed to try! Care to show us the links to that information? I seem to recall Nico battling alongside Schuey week in week out in a Mercedes that was less than the best! - I suspect he doesn't think being at the top is easy at all! Wow! - Let's just ignore the facts of what really happened with Kimi and make stuff up why don't we! I suspect it's F1 fans such as yourself of whom Nico will be glad to see the back of!
