The deal of course, Red Bull can afford easily to not sell him and have repeatedly said so (on both their drivers), I'm convinced that Max would come out on top if they where in the same team.

It would seem that Hamilton's actions, Mercedes inaction, and a hostile work environment would cause anyone to evaluate life and what is "worth it."

I'm not a huge fan of Wehrlein. I wonder if they could steal Stoffel though. Vettel could leave Ferrari... I think now that he's there in the thick of things he realizes that they will not likely be able to right all the wrongs that are going on there any time soon.

Funny, but that was my though as well.

Nico has achieved his life ambition, he said, and things could only get worse from there.

I don't think he is suddenly demotivated, but "dispirited" after a very emotional struggle where he didn't know who to count on.

He prefers his family than all the aggros in F1, I can't say I blame him.

 

Anyway, it looks like Nico is stirring well in the F1 soup, wonder what bouillon we're gonna get in 2017!
If one of the "big "guys moves to Merc, say, Alonso, Seb, or Kimi, who's gonna replace them?

Yes, Rosberg critics seem to come out of the woodwork on this forum.

The guy decides to stop after clinching the WDC; I can't see what is "weak" doing that.

He has reached his goal and thinks about something else in life after F1.

I cannot see what could be wrong with that decision.

Good for him. He met his goal, is living his dream, and is going out on top.

I don't see a single thing wrong with that. If I had tens of millions, I wouldn't continue to work the way I do now. I've met my professional goal and would reduce production to when I felt like it. So he wants to spend some time being a husband and father. So what? He earned it.

 

My initial reaction was critical but I think you and others are right. As fans we often approach sports as hero or zero. Not all champions will be Senna's, Schumachers, Stewarts and it takes great courage to recognize that in oneself and step back while standing at the top.

Hey, I'm sure Nico is a nice guy and all. It's his life, so good for him. He achieved his goal. A lone Championship. One-and-done.

True Champions are in it to race, and to win, until they can no longer compete physically - or there's nobody left to hire them. That's what makes a true Champion, IMO.

A bit cowardly in my opinion, although if I had all the things he has in life, I'd probably be more than content. So I can't blame him too much....

He was never going to be one of the true greats anyway, and I suppose another season of cutthroat warfare with Elton has diminished appeal...
