I know it's been said a million times. Here's a million and one: fix the search function.

As Wax posted, there was a run of VERY nice shirts and other stuff some years ago.

I was fortunate enough to get a shirt at the time and was given a Ferrari Chat hat by another member when I was in the US 10 years ago.

Great products and I wear my Ferrari Chat shirt on special occasions.

I know I've answered a million times. :) we're stuck with this vBulletin search for now, no improving that as no one developing the code anymore. We'll eventually go to XenForo which has a better search or you can use Google on the public forums now.

    Well . . .

We had polos, two kinds of tees, mugs and hats. They came in multiple colors and, of course, every size for men and women up to 2XL.

I do not have ANY still around, as we had a final house cleaning at my warehouse a couple years ago and got rid of the last of them.

I did talk to Rob a few months ago about firing Fchatstuff.com back up, but truth? There's no money in it, and I'm not gettin' any younger.

If Rob approved, and there was enough demand, I'd be willing to order one small run of tees, all would have to be based on pre-orders with PREPAYMENT. Not to sound like a whiny *****, but some folks here have expressed interest in projects like this in the past, and when the merchandise shows up, no longer want to buy/pay for it.

So, step 1 - Hey Rob, ok to run some no-profit tees, maybe a couple dozen, using the new logo? If step one is ok, then we can proceed to step 2.

Edit - Rob, if there's ANY money left over from this, profit free venture, we'll donate it to the charity of your choice. I'd hope to at least break even, but if we make a little, we donate it, ok?

About swag, we do have sister company now MotorStore.com, but I'm afraid of wasting their time for a few dozen shirt and hat sales. I might ask them though. Another option is many more online companies now than when Dave did it, a much more on demand model less effort and risk from both sides.

That's great that fulfillment doesn't have to be in-house. To this day, huge props to you and Dave for making it happen back then. And happen, it did. Wore polo yesterday. :D

Prior to Dave taking on the challenge - Remember the fun Art had at your expense when it came to window sticker and so forth? ;)

    Rob,

Didn't you take a shot at that a few years ago with some Fchat stuff?

My fuzzy recollection of it includes low demand and eventually a quiet death.

I would be on board for 3-5 T shirts, and would gladly prepay.
Understand small runs of items like this get spendy, so a "guesstimate" of cost per shirt helps. So just T shirts might be the way to go, I would also jump on a hat or two or a mug.
As mentioned if you enter enough info on Google a lot of times you will get an F chat link ;)
Also just ask for one in one of the forums, you may get the .......this has been posted many times SEARCH for it. But a helpful member will post a direct link, and that is why F chat rocks ;)

Don't know if this is possible with the current software, but how about a little logo next to the original poster in a thread indicating that they are the thread starter, so that when he posts again you can quickly identify him as the original poster.

I noticed Rennlist does this, and its a nice little feature.

+1 This would have been helpful in the Norwood and Gremlin threads when the page count went into double digits.

Give one lucky F-Chat member their own "section" or "channel". Say "Jerry's Forum", to which he/she could post anything they want and moderate accordingly.

I'd have some fun with that.

I would like to see a dedicated section on exotic car road trips. I know these reports already exist, but they are scattered into the various geographical sections and/or divided by make of vehicle. I have always considered a unique vehicle road trip to generate the same excitement (OK, I'll admit they also generate some degree of trepidation!) and spirit of adventure whether the car is a 10 year old Ferrari, a 40 year old XKE, a convertible, etc. That Mondial trip from Louisiana to British Columbia and the fellow who drove his 308 about a thousand miles so his dad in Texas could ride in it were great stories of driving adventure, but finding them would be a chore.
BTW, since there is no more Crescent City Classic in Arkansas that section has vanished, and there were also some great road trip stories there.
    Cheers!

I used to be on a forum a lot that allowed you to collapse a thread down to just the OP's posts, which was great for catching up on a huge story that had been going for a long time without taking forever.

Could you please make this change in the vBulletin config?
"Inactivity/Cookie Based to Database (automatic forum marking) as Read Marking System"

Switched from Inactivity/Cookie Based to Database marking. - vBulletin Community Forum

The way FC is now you lose all unread status every time you "touch" the forum at all. Even if you just want to check a mailbox, you lose all the usercp and "New posts" thread status.

Almost all vBulletin installations I frequent have it "inactivity based on database", which only marks threads as read when you actually read that thread (you can still nuke the read status the same way it is now with the "mark forums read" menu entry).

just like the concerns in that thread, I wonder how many like myself wouldn't like the change? I want to see all new threads in list until I hit Mark Forums Read or leave the site. I don't want to lose them. so with db, users basically want to see all threads and after they look at it remove from list? you will still have to mark forums read, you will still go over the max 1,000 results in under 12 hours.

    I think you misunderstood.

Right now you are losing the ability to see new threads you did not visit this session until some random timeout hits (20 mins?). The "mark forums read" function is basically executed on the timeout.

This option fixes this. In your UserCp, threads that have been updated that you did not revisit since the update will stay as they are until you visit.

FWIW the option is harmless to turn on and off. I have never seen a forum get into any trouble from flipping the switch, waiting for the users to make up their mind and then decide. No forum I am aware of went back to the current state of FC, which is nuke Read Status on a timeout on any visit to the forum (even if you visit no threads at all and only check a p.m.).

I understand, if you use the db then the threads you do visit will be removed from the list. also there is a 1,000 thread limit you will hit quicker (under 12 hours) if not clearing them on exit. of course it will still just do the 1,000 most recent.

I think I mike like it better with the database, but to change it at this point I wonder how much negative impact.

When switching the option that happens once.

As long as the option stays on those threads in your usercp that you do not visit will not be marked visited based on a timeout (without you ever visiting them).
