My 550 ac controller is the worse part about the car. Settings 1, 2 and three wouldn't blow out a match. Setting 4 is a hurricane. I know its a sealed unit but any suggestions on how to get more out of 1, 2 and 3?

There was a great thread about this within the last couple of years. It's a power transister in the A/C controller that commonly goes bad. Not the controller you can access very easily in the dash, but one up underneath which is a b*tch to get to.

John- Affirmative, but even on the 575M, Auto only gets you to fan speed 3 and on a really hot day the flow is pretty low. 4 really is a huge step above 3. Would be ideal if 3 had even half the airflow of setting 4.

That is common on a lot of cars. Even my truck is like that.

Brian- On your truck, though, the climate control in auto will select the highest fan setting when it is really hot in the interior. The Maranellos never select above fan setting 3 in Auto. At least all my late US and German cars did that.

I know but his question did not seem to be asking that. I am just confirming that his fan outputs sound normal not only for the model but pretty common industry wide, and short of reengineering he's probably stuck with it. Infinitely variable fans are pretty common but at least in Ferrari's case have been problematic. Also most of those are heavily weighted output wise at the highest settings.

Very interesting thread and thanks for the link.
I have come to expect less than adequate A/C in my 456 even after a newly rebuilt pump, until I put it in Auto and max and it actually works, then switching it back to temp selection it works fine. I need to read further..

Graeme- You hit the magic combination. That is exactly what I do. After that Fan Speed 4 blast cools down the interior, Auto in both works fine.
