Seems like this was on the provisional calendar a couple times a few years back, but then i simply never heard anything about it again. I assume it simply isn't happening anymore. Does anyone know why this never came to fruition?

Cannot speak for the New Jersey side of things, but remembering that the Monticello Motor
Club in Monticello, New York was on the short list to host F-1 at one time.

I attended the Art in Motion at Monticello event back in October and brought this up with
organizers. They told me that they were indeed on the list to host F-1 (and it would have
been a spectacular venue, albeit not much in the way of hotel accommodations in the area)
but that in order to pay Bernie's fee they would have had to turn to the state.

Unfortunately, at the time, the state was laying off teachers and other public employees
so it would have been rather hard to justify spending tax dollars in this way so the notion
    was scrapped.

Suppose it was the same way in Jersey as well.

I am in no way affiliated with the GP, but I do live at Port Imperial and have lived through the F1 press and town changes locally since 2005.

Last I had heard anything it was indefinitely postponed. It was supposed to be a 10 year contract that then became 15 at some point...That was from public press and local authorities here. I do know since its announcement in 2011 the area surrounding the track has exploded with new condo's and housing. They are also putting in two new hotels located at what was to be the paddock complex(NY Waterway Ferry in Weehawken). This makes sense infrastructure wise regardless of hosting F1.

Also, they did put an FIA safety area on the hill leading up to the top of the cliff because there was no place for a crane or fire safety on that particular part of the track.

Below is a link to an article from September:
Here's why F1 sale could mean new life for a race in New Jersey

3 reasons I've come across in addition UBS not securing funding:

1 - Local townships fought between themselves over $ and responsibilities (Weehawken VS West New York)

2 - Vendors/Adverts for the event wanted to much money for the job.

3 - Land developers put a stop to it until all buildings are built - Tilke had to resurface the roads and if that pushed back the opening dates on all the million dollar water front condos - would the GP promoters be liable for any lost profits and likewise could the GP sue the developers if the track surface was damaged.

Will it happen??? At this point probably not, but I am also wondering if the Formula E event in Brooklyn next year is a test run to see how people would react to an event within metro NY.

Given the presentation of the "track" in New Jersey a couple of years ago I doubt it has anything to do with building sites, let alone the one across the river; the Hudson Yards. It all seemed to be a done deal at the time, well sort off.

Concerning F1 theirs only 1 thing important; MONEY.

Berny says, show me the money.

I am sure it was the fees.
You need the 'big nut' tax incentive.

Interesting development the sale of F1.

As IF the Texas event, is not a "Superbowl" style one of a kind, the Texas tax rebate vanishes, and COTA blows out, like a candle...

But now the F1 owner, wants "more events in USA"....
We will see....it's rather "add one, and you lose one".....so they need add three to yield two (less Austin)

With Leo Hindery (YES network, telecom/private equity$) driving it I figured the NJ/NY GP had a shot. He's well connected politically, a gentleman racer (4X Le Mans) too. But it all comes down to F1 sanction fees, and who's going to fund it. I think Leo didn't want to hold the whole bag personally, and couldn't get enough partners willing to also dip into their own pockets.

New F1 circuits just aren't feasible, without significant government/taxpayer support (at least, under the older Bernie rules). The reason is simple : there are way too many cities/states/countries across the globe, willing to pay Bernie a substantial fee (above and beyond event-related revenues) to get on the very limited F1 calendar.

New Jersey was never going to happen, while they (proudly) claimed 'no taxpayer support'.

There will never be another F1 race in Vegas. It's the venue Bernie trots out when he wants to wind up some other potential race organiser. Bernie has a big wheel in LV and a pet journo who will back up his BS on demand.
