Wolff already said they are going to let their drivers race next year to the best of their ability so there will not be a "#2" driver.

That's what he told me when he rang to book my interview. I told him not to worry, I'll let Elton catch up occasionally so he doesn't feel left out, just so long as he doesn't get use of my motor home, and if he throws a cap at me, I'm allowed to smack him in the face

Seems fair. I'd guess you're on the short list.

Well of course. The trick is to pick a solid #2 driver who scores points but doesn't become dangerous to Lewis. Plenty of those out there

None of the top teams do it that way any longer.

    Hey Sid, is that you?

Aren't you the same one, who for months, has been vociferously predicting ad infinitum Elton's imminent decision to retire? (i.e. in order to enter either the music or acting realms)

Well...I thought he does not need that...didn´t he say the better his team mate the better for him and that he likes the challenge? ;)
They allready had a solid No.2 driver for the last 3 years and look what happened :D

Yep, i was hoping the numpty would retire having been beaten by Nico. Trouble is, champion driver Nico decided he'd had a guts full already and beat the chump to it.

Don't worry, if Toto takes a chance on me, I'll make every effort to retire him every single race (once he catches up with me of course) :)

Toto stated they are ready to make a 'brave' decision. Also stated they want a driver who makes few mistakes and is experienced. To me, this points more to Fred than anyone else. Werlien is not battle tested so there is no way to know how good he is. Not a good move for a top team who have a couple other top teams with a pair of ace drivers breathing on their neck.

The small battle for last (or thereabouts) Wehrlein had at the end of the year and the fit he threw because of it, tells me he doesn't have the stones to fight Hamilton, Ric, Ves and possibly the Ferrari's.

Alonso to Mercedes partnering Hamilton would be great for F1 regardless of whether its another Mercedes runaway in 2017…

Wonder if that would also result in Button getting the record for the shortest F1 retirement of all time…

He hopes. I might bust a cap in him, gangsta style, as I celebrate on the podium! :)

My thinking exactly. I don't get the hub-bub about him. Out of all the new-new guys... I think Stoffel is going to look like a superhero.

I hope they pick/steal a real name. Alonso, Seb, Ric, etc.

When is it likely that they will announce a replacement? Is there a magic date?

I hate when these guys use words like "brave" and "heroic.' Nothing "brave" about Nico retiring. It's his choice to do so ... it's odd...good for his family probably, etc... but brave? No.

Now if they were to pick Pastor for the seat... that'd be brave.
