I didn't hear anyone use "heroic". It is brave. To dramatically change the way you have lived your whole life without knowing how you will adapt, but knowing it's the right thing to do. Bravery doesn't always involve danger, it does involve pain. I guarantee you Nico will endure a lot of emotional pain adapting to being a full time father.
F1 Specials Mercedes Special odds | Formula 1 betting | William Hill Bottas now clear odds on favourite for the hot seat at 4/7 ! I guess they could put Werewolf into his car , or maybe give Paul Di Resta a go ? Jenson might even be in the frame too, Claire Williams and Pat S said a few months ago that he would fit well into the team he started his F1 career with: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/125616 Plus you would have a very experienced driver to lead the way for Stroll in his rookie year. Bottas to Merc and Dr Jenson to Williams ..job done!
Briatore rules out Mercedes switch for Alonso Alonsos manager says he's not moving. Hope he's lying always possible hamilton and alonso go toe to toe 2018?
Button to Williams? - I seriously doubt they could afford to buy him out of his McLaren contract! Added to that, what are Williams going to give him that would be any better than what he had this season at McLaren? - They weren't that much better than McLaren in 2016! (Even Force India with their $3.50 budget managed to beat Williams this year!)
According to Blick it is down to Alonso, Bottas and Wehrlein. Lauda said they won't break existing contracts so that seems to give Wehrlein an advantage
We can agree to disagree. Adapting to not driving a race car shouldn't be all that traumatic. He's not a battle worn soldier trying to assimilate in a peaceful world back home for crying out loud. I'm sure the 10's and 10's of millions of dollars he's earned in his career driving a car for a living will certainly aid in the recovery of all that "emotional pain." I'm not dissing Nico. He's certainly within his rights to do what he feels is right for him and his family. Rightly or wrongly... he's been criticized as not having the steely drive or hunger at times to be a champion... some will see him bowing out like this as proof of that and maybe didn't have the confidence to continue on and accept a hardened challenge from Lewis next year while others will certainly put him in a different light that sees it as he accomplished his own goal and there was nothing left for him to achieve for himself.... smart, calculated, and I guess to some..."brave." History decides how we are perceived. I hope he receives the credit he deserves, but he's in a select group who are largely viewed by fans in a very different way. I don't get personal about drivers. I view things merely from what I like to see as a fan. There are athletes that are standouts and others that aren't to me... yet there is success from both groups. I gravitate to charismatic athletes.. to others... that means nothing and that's okay.
Well, I guess that should Mercedes decide on Bottas, they would have to give Sir Frank a heap of money as compensation, one way or another, so should Sir Frank decide so, he might perhaps buy Jenson out. But I fully agree with you, Williams had been a disappointment for me, because I like the team, but since they have the Mercedes engine, from 2014 thru 2015 to 2016, competitivity has only been going downhill... Incidentally, that would be a racing seat for Jenson, not a reserve driver seat. Rgds
Briatore is such a joker. With Mclaren losing sponsors I can't fathom they wouldn't allow a buyout for Fred. That and Fred had to have exit clauses surrounding car performance.
Doubtful. Hed never ok alonso but merc would take alonso in a heartbeat if they could regardless of what hamster wants
Money doesn't help in this situation. He's had money his whole life. Leaving everything he has known for ~30 years behind is traumatic. It's a common misconception to think that only danger and war are issues for the human brain. Stress comes in many different forms. Often this is perpetuated by people with military service. It's hard to see the other side of the story. This isn't limited to Nico. Many Athletes and executives have difficulty and often fail adapting to "normal" life. Just because some have it harder doesn't make it less challenging.
Agreed Mercedes will take the driver they want, they have not shown a pattern of consulting their drivers to get their okay on anything.
Based on what? Hamilton said he has no provisions in his contract regarding teammate. If there is one thing we know about Merc, it's that the drivers are not in charge.
Toto has been quite clear about LH having zero to say about it. I will find his rather firm statement about it
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff claims Lewis Hamilton won't be involved in the decision-making process for Nico Rosberg's replacement. The Silver Arrows hope to make an announcement on their 2017 driver line-up in December, with Pascal Wehrlein and Valtteri Bottas the current favourites. "It is like many other employees," Wolff told Sky Sports when asked if Hamilton could choose who is next team-mate is. "We will give Lewis the information once we’ve come to a point where we think it’s a sensible decision and then inform him." The Austrian's comments follow Hamilton's claims that he doesn't care who he is partnered with next season, as long as he has equal rights. But Wolff did admit that keeping the Brit, who threatened to quit following the Spanish GP, happy is important as Mercedes consider their next step.
Its Alonso to Mercedes... which does not surprise me at all. So then does that mean they put Button back in the Car?
There is a difference between being more deceptive and actually being in charge. He had no control over the switch of personnel in the garage this year. He had no control over his team race strategy with the WDC on the line.
