I will begin by saying I am NOT a automotive journalist, race car driver etc, I am a car enthusiast that have owned many cars ( currently 5) always wanted a Ferrari and finally was able to achieve this several years ago
As I wanted a Ferrari I could actually use daily I chose the FF, 4 real seats, could drive in rain, snow, still have an amazing sports car
So now I have done 40,000 miles in the car I feel I am somewhat of and expert in this car at least
The good: this is really an amazing car, comfortable to travel many hours with the family and luggage and fast enough to keep your adrenaline flowing for hours, the engine and gear box are a jewel, yes there are faster cars, yes sharper cars on a track but as an all around car that can do everything well, I say hard to beat ( I have had BMW M3, M5, Alpina B7, Porsche turbo etc etc) all cars have some compromising this is as close as you get to have everything, this car can be on the track an amaze you and other people and you can use it daily shopping, kids to school, driving on mountain passes ( you get the picture), finish inside is incredible in my car I have heated and ventilated seats, TV for kids in the back and plea to of room

The less good: well for me several things come to mind, very few dealers as expected so my dealer is far away, if the car needs to go there usually several day ordeal ( even for maintanence), interior is delicate despite taking care of it under warranty I have had to repair leather shrinkage, and the leather roof became unglued, has a lot of electronic glitches and gremlins ( I wish they figure this out or get the electronics from German cars or Japanese cars), everything is so expensive ( I think sometimes unnecessary) that I pay extra warranty to have peace of mind and that adds to expense, battery life sucks ( I have discussed this before) either battery is insufficient or it needs two batteries, if you use the car like me, then they take a huge hit in price ( not sure if this is a US thing) but most people tend only to drive these cars a few thausand miles per year so other cars with " higher miles" are worth less ( to me a psychology problem).

In case you are wondering I am keeping the car, maybe break the "record" for miles in FF ( dealer in Beverly Hills already told me I have the record from cars they service)

Thought I would give my 0.2 cents from a real world owner I know it was helpful for me to read and ask questions here when I was researching the FF

Definitely great infos for people like you and me who intend to take the car well over 100K miles and possibly into the ground. Wow, 40K miles is record?!?!

-So would you say a Porsche turbo is probably is the most reliable and durable of all the non-Japanese car you have owned?
-Leather shrinkage?!...That's the first time I have heard about that.
-What about the mechanical?...Engine, transmission, etc, and ordeals with them that prevented you from being able to drive to repair and thus have to flat-bed the car instead.
-Can you give an estimate of how much hit in price per certain amount of mileage?

Yes Porsche by far the most reliable my wife drives a turboS daily for past 4 years no issues, only yearly service not one issue, starts every time even when not used for two weeks ( on vacation)
Leather in front dash shrank from heat and foam was showing ( quite embarrassing I think)
Meachanial: speed sensor ECU changed car worked but stuck in 1st gear so not really drivable, air solenoid changed no problems driving car only persistent engine light on, leak from small hose in engine ( no problem driving car noticed leak while showing engine to a friend)
Regarding price and miles my example only ( so others don't get bent out of shape) original MSRP in 2012 $398,000 wholesale price now probably around $130,000 ( this is without negotiating or anything just asked dealer) I don't really care but shows you that is you drive the cars ( I think they should be driven my opinion only so others don't get frisky) it hurts value at least in USA

    Thanks for the feedback Pinarello.
Cars with miles also take a big hit in the US.

There is a 92,000mi 2013 FF in DC.
That also broke my heart, can't run for the most miles on an FF title either... lol

At some point the best move is probably to keep it.

great write up. We have about 20,000 miles across 2 cars, so quite a step behind the OP and some others here.

On the interior (leather), I'd imagine that the heat cycles from being in a hot/sunny place accelerate and exacerbate underlying problems, as the "leather" in our Porsche seems much more robust than in our Ferraris.

One option we now swear by is the heat insulating windshield. Yes, it actually works, and if you think about the modern F cars, the windshields are huge. We also had a custom windshield sun screen made to keep the inside cool.

Good luck and enjoy the next 40K miles.

Man, what you have mentioned makes me want to hope into a 991 TTS instead because the closest repair place is too far away, but the "frunk" of a 911 is too small. Porsche needs to make a shooting brake version out of it.

Have you been using a windshield sun screens frequently, like Entropy had mentioned? I always put those up every time I am parked outside, even in the evening...takes less than 5 seconds. I like the cooler interior and privacy associated with their use.

That stuck speed sensor will be a problem, especially if the shop is far.

    Can't wait to see it.

I wonder what would be the current selling price for one with 92K miles. I would like to hear what problems that owner has come across. Gosh, how does the owner rack up so many miles?!...and I thought I drive a lot at more than 12K miles a year. Compared to that owner, my mileage is nothing.

Same here. Isn't it just lovely?!

92,000 mile FF is for sale? Or an owner you know?

It's like stock in a great company at a cheap price. Except you are buying emotional not financial profit.

    Smart.

The standard nero daytona leather in my Ferrari at least is top grain. Even the non analine dyed options are better than Porsche. With quality comes fragility. That means every 6-12 month a treatment with a top quality conditioner. The sun is going to break it down faster over time if left exposed. Hot and sunny is obviously the worst.

Porsche leather is not top grain, and has protection. Far more durable, more plastic. But not even close to as luxurious.

I know the owner as well. He is a Ferrari collector that drives them. Puts around 25k miles per year on his FF. Service department claims the FF is holding up very well on the miles.

    Nice !

You should someday ask him about brakes. Pads and rotors. No one has needed rotors yet from normal driving, supposedly it's around 60,000+ miles.

For some people getting in at 4 and 5 years old that will be huge to know. And for those of us keeping them long term.

To my knowledge, it's all original but I can check. Service department says the FF is the most robust car Ferrari has built

Actually the wholesale price is $115k for a 2012 FF w/20k+ miles. I guy in Florida just told me that yesterday when I said I saw a 2012 FF w/35k miles and the asking price was $150k. The guy said it was way over priced. He owns a FF and was going to trade a newer Fcar so is very well aware trade in values on his car.

When negotiating around for my FF, I asked one of the F car dealers I was in touch with for a '15 model: what will be the trade in value for this car next year, when I have put 25,000mi on it
    Answer: $120,000.
I thought it was exaggerated, but could be true.

Which explains why most are on consignment.

There seem like having a big price gap between the sub 7k cars , and > 15kmi cars. More than "usual".

At 120k, not sure if it's worth selling a 25kmi FF. Better keep it, bring it to 75kmi and then store it for the memory.

Yes or buying a used FF with 25k miles for $120k and really DD driving it for a several years and just not worrying about resale at all. Doubt the 4 place cars will come back in value in any foreseeable future.
