Yeah, boo hoo Mercedes aren't able to pick the best driver for their team. I'm so broken up, may have to go to a dark room and have a good cry........ hahahahahahaha ha. Never mind, they still have a driver with the IQ of a crash test dummy in the other car

With Paddy Lowe leaving for Williams and Rosberg retiring, Mercedes may not be able to continue the in season development to dominate next year. If the car is not great out of the box it could be a more interesting year. Wolff has said Hamilton does not test much because he just gets in the car and drives fast, development of the car and feedback are not his strengths. Is Pascal known as a good development driver?

With Newey being much more involved in the new Red Bull and Rory Byrne's involvement in the new Ferrari, Mercedes may not have the cake walk they have enjoyed lthe ast 3 years.

How can you dare to say that??? We learned from the Hamilton worshippers that Lewis turned around the fate of the Mercedes team single handed when he joined...and now you want to make us believe that it was not the development and feedback of Lewis making the Mercedes what it is today...i am shocked :D

Sorry, I did not say that, Toto Wolff did, but what would he know?

Nico seems appreciated by Toto. Rosberg's replacement - What we know so far about the Mercedes candidates

In the same interview with Sky Sports, Wolff set out the criteria he and the Mercedes team is looking for in Lewis Hamilton's next teammate:

"It is about out and out pace. Mistakes are a different topic. Only on very few occasions have we seen Lewis or Nico making a mistake or colliding. More than 90 per cent of the races we've been able to score maximum points, so that is a consideration.

"Then the out and out pace in order to challenge Lewis and grow the general performance within the team. We need somebody that goes lightning fast. To combine all those three factors is what Nico has been able to do over the years.

    "Good" Compliance deeply missed:

Toto Wolf has certainly a severe conflict of interest in acting both as Mercedes-race- team director and as Botta`s manager at the same time.

    I find this highly questionable

Am I the only one who thinks that Button is an important piece in this game?

Mercedes wants Bottas, but Williams must have an experienced driver because of the new rules and the incoming daddy's girl Stroll. Williams already have in its 2017 budget a high salary allocation (for Bottas) and thus could hire Button. Claire had said that Williams would love to have Button before he retires. On the other hand, by negotiating Bottas release with Mercedes, they can get a huge bargain on its engine costs. It's a win-win situation: Mercedes gets an experienced driver, Williams also gets en experienced driver that they like plus considerable $$$.

That makes perfect sense but the impression I have is that Jensen has already thrown the switch. I think he is retired.

Button hasn't shown much motivation lately.

He drove in 2016, like if he was going through the motions.

His last year reminded me of Damon Hill final season.

They just honour their contract, but their mind isn't in the game anymore.

I am even surprised he is still considered for a potential Williams seat next year.

    I think so as well.

I don't think the sponsors would like to see them driving in 2017, so soon after announcing their retirement.

In the end, I think the sponsors are the ones who will decide.
