2006 F430 Spider - This issue is already fixed, posting for the benefit of the forum Issue: No matter what setting, the heater blows cold air. Background: It used to work, so I am using it correctly System: There are only a few major components in the system; 1. Climate Control Unit 2. Servo heater valve (in front of car, under AC service panel. 3. Aux Water Pump (in rear of car under floor pan, at front of engine. It pumps water to the front heater core) 4. A few temp sensors. .a. mirror .b. across from key (with fan) .c. in evaporator box .d. maybe others?? Documents: In Workshop Manual at Page 745 F430 Spider.pdf from [ http://www.ferraridatabase.com/The_Downloads/Manuals_Workshop.htm ] Tried: 1. Every possible setting. OFF, Recirculation, manual settings for temp, fan, flow. 2. Topped off my coolant tank, read that has caused some similar issues. (topped off per workshop manual) 3. Checked outside temp probe buy checking cluster outside temp Solution: *Not completely sure, even though I was being methodical I removed the AC Module (aka Climate control control unit), disassembled it, and checked under high magnification for cold solder joints, water damage, oxidation, burnt components or traces. All looked 100%. Then I reassembled and it worked! **I did not re-solder any connectors or components. I really, really wanted to... What did I fix. Nothing, so best I can guess is that the removal of the unit also removed power and was thus an inadvertent reset. Hard Part: Removing the yellow wiring harness, you have to lift the black tab away from the Unit with a small flat head screwdriver about 1 cm, then it will pull out toward the rear of the car. Note: Several people reported that their Climate Modules had failed and were replaced. They had similar symptoms. So I postulate that the units might not be bad, they might just need to be removed and reinstalled. I also assume a master power reset (switch under bonnet) would have the same effect. Request: If anyone does this and it works for you, please post here! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Well done Trent. I've had this issue before on the 360 the 430 and the 599 also suffers with it too. It's caused by some kind of resistance build up on the control unit contacts, as it uses small reference voltages for the signals between various components they stop functioning; disconnection and re-connection does usually cure the issue...
Should you turn the main battery switch off while disconnecting/reconnecting the yellow wiring harness? TIA
The workshop manual states to disconnect the battery before doing anything, including replacing the battery Disconnect battery? I dont think so, the harness gender is female on the HOT (+12v) side, so no risk of fuse destruction. *If you had disconnected the battery, assuming my theory is right, then you would not have had to disconnect the harness in the first place to resolve the heater issue
I turned the battery disconnect off, then back on and the heater started working. Thanks for the tip.
I had this same issue on my scud. No A/C and no heat (I noticed both due to the change of seasons). After reading this thread, I reset the system using the battery disconnect switch in the trunk. After I did this, the heater worked . . . but only for a few hours. I had my local dealer take a look at this issue and they confirmed that the unit works for a while after a reset, but then conks out after a while. The dealer from which I purchased the car (in another state) has arranged for my local dealer to replace the unit. So, removal/reset can work, but can be a very temporary fix. One more thing, note that if you disconnect the battery, you will need the stereo security code to operate the stereo when you reconnect the battery. I don't have this code right now, but I've asked the local dealer to get it for me.
Thanks for the heads up. I will watch it to see whether it fails again quickly. My A/C was working fine, but the heater wouldn't work. Any idea what the part costs? Once I entered the radio code, the radio also asked for the system CD. Make sure you have that as well.
Before the dealer said they'd take care of it, I was quoted $1200 -- a very Ferrari price! Damn, I need a CD too? Can I at least use just the radio if I only put in the code? I don't have a CD. Aside from that, what's the deal with making it so hard to use the stereo after disconnecting the battery? It's really a crap stereo. Don't see the need for extensive security measures.
I think the radio and CD work without inserting the system CD. I think it said it was for the "voice" functions. Agree on the crappy stereo. The Bluetooth is useless. On the rare occasions I can get it to pair, no one I call can hear me even if I am sitting still.
Update: The cost that was quoted to me to replace the climate control unit was actually $2650 not $1200! Quite a lot considering it's just a circuit board that they plug in under the dash.
Again, the dealer is absorbing the cost for me. Out of curiosity, however, what's the deal with Ricambi? They are independent of Ferrari but sell OEM Ferrari parts for less than Ferrari do? How is it they can do this?
I verified that unplugging the climate control unit and re plugging it fixed the issue. my heater and ac has always worked fine. it stopped working one day for no particular reason. I found this thread, unplugged the unit, plugged it back in. everything is back to normal.
Trent, thanks for posting that pic. Im going to post a pic of F355 for informational only to show its NOT the same as a 430 even tho it looks the same from the outside. This is a pic of mine when I was troubleshooting it. I replaced one of those 6 chips when the heater valve stopped working. It fixed my issue. Anyways for those who are unfamiliar with the AC ECU circuit board these are what they look like and those black square chips help control everything. The problem is you have to figure out what controls what. Image Unavailable, Please Login
My 430 does not put heat out if you start it too soon after the self check- leave it another 5 seconds and its fine- dealer was telling me it take time for system to talk to itself. It works for me.
That's not corrosion. Its a resin that was put on when the board was made. I chipped some of it off to see some of the numbers on the chips
Just seen this thread again, pretty sure it's the one that helped me. The F430 would just stay ice cold for months. Then one day I read it on here. Went outside opened bonnet. Isolator out counted to like 10. Battery isolator back in and wow. Hot air and it never went wrong for as long as we owned it after Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatalk
Lol....no hot air after driving the car last 3 times. Looked this post up and did the battery reset from the trunk. It worked. Heater now works again. Ferrari.....you make me laugh sometimes...
In mine to get heat to come out, I have to hit the snowflake button. This is obviously peculiar because it means that when pushed in, it's lit green and presumably turns the AC compressor on to make heat. Am I missing something?
I don't have a snowflake button. However I do have to push the ON button out to make the heater work which is the same as when I use it for cold air A/C. On auto setting it does some weird stuff. Can someone explain why during the summer the a/c air would stop when blowing full speed and then gradually come back to blowing at full speed. Seems to do it randomly
