Would love to have those factory carb covers for when the air filter is off. And note in the photo the MIG welding was done one handed, as shown by the handle on the welding mask. So COOL

So chassis by Vaccari and Bosi, body panels by scaglietti which was owned by Ferrari, Then all components send to Bertone for assembly painting and trim, and then back to Ferrari for drive train. This became very interesting Since you chimed in Dom!! So iguess Ferrari only had to build enginces and install into the car then pay all the vendors and collect money from the sale.

    Definitely interesting.

One thing I should point out- I have no idea about how accurate the book is. I m not familiar with the author, and frankly, I don't even remember when and where I got the book. I've had it a few years, along with several other Ferrari related books.

just noticed in the book photo caption reads bertone fabricating body panels. But that may be inner structurs wheel wells etc. So scaglietti main body panels?

Well one thing is sure, Just seeing the photos is more than I could find online re the GT4. So I would think if the book was made with Ferraris knowledge the author got the info from somewhere.

Interesting thread. Thanks Mike for starting this. I just assumed the cars were fully assembled in the Ferrari plant and everything by the vendors were shipped there for assembly.

I bought the book too on eBay before this thread send a spike to the sellers and price goes up ;-).

I've been trying to dig for info and photos on this on and off for 16yrs and was always lead to the same articles with no info and its introduction at the 73 Paris autoshow which I can recite. At one time I thought they were built at fiat but don't know where I got that info. Probably info overload. I always asked myself why? Why never any info on my car? And in other Ferrari books there is always little mention. And as far as factory photos. Forget it. That was the mystery to me. So I guess buried somewhere in books there is info on this car. And thx to DOM we are off to a good start. Especially since there are no books on the gt4. Now I really want more info!

Interesting. It contradicts "Ferrari 308, 328 and 348 the complete story":

Not the first time books about Ferrari of this era are contradictory of course.

Presumably it should not be difficult to figure out which is correct... we will find either:

    1. a photo of a production line with GT4s along side Stratoses
    2. a photo of a production line with GT4s, untrimmed alongside GTBs and GTSs, 400s etc

Well that's definitely a GT4 back there, a couple. My Wife just got me a nice orig Dino keychain for my bday but she should have gotten me this book...although I have no doubt the book would run a good bit more $$!

No idea where you found this...how about that Alfetta Spider concept. They should release that today and I'd buy it tomorrow 43 years later. The Karmann concept is the sciorocco. Love this stuff, so bad ass

I was thinking earlier today I do remember seeing that pic years ago of the stratos on the assembly line right next to a GT4...at that point at least the assembly was Bertone but who knows how things changed thru the years with the Scagletti acquisition, what every was going on with fiat and everything else happening at the time. One thing is for certain, love the story with these cars

I always assumed Bertone didn't build it because they did not have the capacity... at that time they were building Lancia Stratos, Alfa Montreal and Urraccos. Also I would be surprised if Il Commendatore would allow his Dinos to be built along side the farmers Urracos :) But business is business and maybe Bertone had multiple factories... It will be good to see where this leads...

It wont provide a clue unless there is a tag on the car hidden. My 75 is in a billion of Pieces right now for the second time. There is also the build number on the back of the rear seat, the bottom edge of the door lip that the door panel screws to. and the small panel that hides the door hinges. Another member stated it is on the trans tunnel also
