Oh I agree. If anything, Schumacher's legacy from that time is that he and Brawn built an amazing team. That was the point of Schu being there. Taking anything else from that time is a complete waste though. Very similar to Vettel's first season with hybrid engines and Ricciardo, Vettel just couldn't drive the thing hence why Ricci cleaned his clock that year. Is Ricci a better driver? No, the machinery just could not be made to work. F1 of this era is very different to F1 of the 80s and early 90s when a driver really could get in and arm wrestle the car.....

Money talks and fame is always a good thing for an F1 driver no matter how grounded. Mercedes will get a good pilot. F1 contracts are worth what??? :) This is quite amazing. The seat/car they all really want......is out of reach it seems. Im not counting Mercedes, its money and potential out. Bottas should get the seat or Sainz. Werhlost is not a good option at all.

While everyone is wetting themselves over the 'bravery" of Nico to walk away from F1 after winning WDC... it's seemingly overlooked how badly he left his team in a really bad spot. Instead of having a reasonable transition, there is going to be a scramble to create these creative deals to potentially break contracts and such with little time to do it.

His podium was at Valencia if I remember right. He should have won Canada 2011 if Whiting wasn't playing games with the safety car as usual with the rain. Yes he was washed up at Merc but occasionally that greatness would come through. Pole at Monaco was amazing and he was still the best on the grid in the wet. Look at his wet qualifying performances during his Merc years.

That said he would have competed for WDCs in 2014/15 driving that Merc had he signed a new deal. Let's not forget that he tied Nico in qualifying his last year and Nico has proven to be approximately .1 off Hamilton (widely regarded as the fastest guy over 1 lap). Not bad for age 43.

I agree 100% that he should have stayed in 2007-08, bagged 2 more WDCs with Ferrari and called it a day. Was he scared of Raikkonen considering he was getting old after 2006? I don't know but he shouldn't have been.

Boo hoo, boo hoo, We are all crying for poor Mercedes, all dressed up and no one to drive...... **** em as far as I'm concerned, hope they completely **** up next year and get beat by everyone including the manor. Toto and Lauda deserve everything they get after their treatment of Rosberg over the past three seasons, and inexplicable support regardless of the bull**** from Elton.

Hey I personally don't care. I'm not super fan of Merc. I'd like to see them knocked off their pedestal as much as the next person... but I want it to be because they're beaten, not because circumstances allowed for it. I realize there's a million moving parts to championships, but I want to see the best against the best and for the best to win on an even playing field. That's my utopian and naïve dream for F1.

    Spot on!
I hope Rosberg is having a good time, by celebrating, and by laughing, he reads the papers too! As said, Toto and Lauda were far from neutral, not only last season. To realise they'll have to hire some second choise driver is the least they deserve. I sincerely hope they're in trouble next season, they do need a lesson in humility.

    LOL, exactly right.

and that's probably the way Rosberg feels. While Rosberg behaved very professional throughout his career at Mercedes, they let the little drama queen get away with a lot of trouble.

Pay back time. And well deserved.

To see the best against each other on a level playing field? Then The Mercedes has to be equalled.

Hehe . didnt see that one coming ,but yeh it makes sense why not,and as No1 driver he might even negotiate a pay rise!

Otherwise what options on experienced drivers would Williams have? Maybe Jenson who officially still has a 'contract' with McLaren ,Werewolf (but not with Stroll too little experience),hmmmm thats about it i guess.or maybe one of the drivers who can bring more money like Stroll, only problem with that is most of them are not proven to be good enough to be Williams lead driver alongside stroll in 2017.

Only 10 F1 driver shopping days till Xmas LOL

'Thats another fine mess you gotten me into' its looking like a real Laurel n Hardy show now ..Merry Xmas Nicole!

Well, I guess Felipe would have prefered a much simpler move:
To get the Mercedes seat, and that Bottas stays at Williams...

True but Felipe is in control whereas Valterri is tied to his contract so Felipe could say I want to play but only with the silver car...

That would be interesting. Two old title contenders reunited... :)

    All the best,

I would like that very much; he could then be fighting his old sparring partner Max Verstappen at the top. Two juniors in 2015, then in the best cars as soon as 2017....

I think this would be superb. I hope Carlos can get a break and move up. He seems to be a very good driver.

Carlos will need a little time to adjust, but he is a promising driver, hamstrung by the toro Rosso to date. It would be good to see it happen, but I'm guessing massa to Williams and bottles Mercedes more likely?

Now with the delay anything is possible with the money Mercedes can bring to a 'problem' :)
